Secretive group protesting critical race theory, masks, vaccines holds Flag Day rally in Greenwich

GREENWICH — Austin Whitsitt came to Greenwich from Tennessee by way of Philadelphia, New York and a host of other major American cities where, for the past several months, he said he has made it his mission to dispel what he deems misinformation about vaccines, masks and the shape of the Earth.

He ended up on the lawn of Greenwich Town Hall late Monday afternoon because he heard about a “freedom rally” when he was in Connecticut visiting a friend. So he, along with 50 residents of Greenwich and other nearby towns, turned up to protest COVID-19 vaccinations, masks for students and critical race theory in schools.

“Lock-down is a prison term, not a free country term,” Whitsitt said, after listing the reasons why masks don’t prevent COVID-19 and how the Earth is actually flat.

Next to him was David Weiss, his friend and a lifelong Greenwich resident.

“A lot of people are waking up about this,” Weiss said. “I think vaccines are the cause of all disease.”

Weiss is a member of the Greenwich Patriots, a loose association of concerned residents of Greenwich, other Fairfield County towns and New York, that was formed several months ago by Jackie Homan, a parent of students in the Greenwich Public Schools.
