Twitter Becomes First American Platform to Lose its Coveted ‘Legal Shield’ in India
Twitter became the first American platform to lose its legal shield in India for 3rd party content.
Twitter failed to appoint statutory officers under the new IT rules by May 25 and ignored the “one last notice” issued on June 5.

NEW DELHI: Twitter has lost the coveted “safe harbour” immunity in India over its failure to appoint statutory officers on the company’s role in line with the new IT rules, and its top executives, including the country managing director, could now face police questioning and criminal liability under IPC over ‘unlawful’ and ‘inflammatory’ content posted on the platform by any user.
With this, Twitter becomes the only American platform to have the protective shield – granted under Section 79 of the IT Act, even though others such as Google, YouTube, Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram remain protected, official sources said.
Last month the Delhi Police Special Cell raided offices of Twitter in Delhi and Gurgaon in connection with their “Toolkit” probe.
Police sent a letter to Twitter India after the social media giant labeled BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra’s tweet as “manipulated media.”
The BJP party (right-wing) is one of the two major political parties in India.
“We want to know what information Twitter has about the toolkit and why they chose to give the ‘manipulated media’ label. Our team is conducting raids at their Delhi office in Mehrauli and their Gurgaon office on Golf Course Road,” said the officer.

Saudi Arabia Detains 136 People in Latest Anti-Corruption Drive
Saudi authorities detained 136 people – both citizens and expatriates in Saudi Arabia – for their alleged involvement in bribery, abuse of power, and forgery, the country’s anti-graft watchdog said on Sunday.
The Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) said in a statement that many of the suspects were employees at various ministries as well as members of the National Guard and the country’s Tax & Customs Authority.
Nazaha teams conducted last month nearly 900 raids, during which they detained the suspects and investigated 562 people in both criminal and administrative cases, according to the statement.
The authority added that legal procedures are being completed in preparation for their referral to court.
This is just the latest round of large anti-corruption arrests in the kingdom, as Nazaha has been ramping up crackdowns on corruption, fraud and bribery over the past year.
“Nazaha is standing up against financial and administrative corruption,” Majed Garoub, a Saudi lawyer, told Arab News back in April. “The crackdown on corruption is a reality and we’re witnessing its success every time we hear the good news of these arrests.”
In January, 32 people were arrested following an investigation into the illegal transfer of US$3.1 billion out of the country, according to Al Jazeera. In March, at least 241 people – many of them government employees – were also arrested on corruption charges.
The mass arrests, however, have raised questions and sparked concern from human rights organizations, who argue fighting against corruption is not an excuse for a lack of due process.
“Saudi authorities should immediately reveal the legal and evidentiary basis for each person’s detention and make certain that each person detained can exercise their due process rights,” Human Rights Watch said in a statement earlier this year.

Employees of 7 ministries among 136 arrested for corruption
RIYADH — A total of 136 people — citizens and expatriates — have been arrested for their alleged involvement in corruption, Saudi Arabia’s anti-graft authority has said on Sunday.
In a statement, the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) said that the accused included employees of the ministries of defense, interior, National Guard, health, justice, municipal and rural affairs and housing and education.
The charges framed against them included bribery, abuse of power and forgery. They were arrested during as many as 914 inspection raids carried out by the Nazaha teams during the month of Shawal.
The arrest of the suspects was made after carrying out investigations into the alleged role of 562 people. Nazaha said that the legal procedures are being completed prior to referring them to courts.

Despite the Wuhan Institute of Virology’s U.S. taxpayer-funded collaborators such as EcoHealth Alliance’s Peter Daszak’s insisting that the controversial lab never worked with live bats, evidence including patents and archived news reports reveal otherwise.
The evidence follows Daszak – whose organization funneled money from Anthony Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases to partner with the Wuhan Institute of Virology – equating claims that the Wuhan lab worked with live bats to “conspiracy theories.”
“This is a widely circulated conspiracy theory. This piece describes work I’m the lead on & labs I’ve collaborated w/ for 15 yrs. They DO NOT have live or dead bats in them,” Daszak, who also served as a World Health Organization (WHO) COVID-19 investigator, tweeted.
A 2009 profile on the Wuhan Institute of Virology’s Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases Director Shi Zhengli – dubbed “bat woman” – in a Chinese state-run media outlet, however, outlines how the lab collected bat samples:
At that time, the experiment needed to go to the wild to collect bat samples, and the whole process was very hard. “Ms. Shi not only participated in the whole process, but also took everyone to climb the mountain and into the cave.” Assistant researcher Zhang Huajun recalled. To prevent the infection of the virus carried by bats, “Ms. Shi would repeatedly remind everyone to wear gloves and masks before each departure. Wear work clothes and prepare for protection.”
Contrary to the claims of Daszak, the Wuhan lab’s assistant researcher also reveals the team “captured a few bats from the wild to be used as experimental animals” in the lab:
Zhang Huajun said: “The research team captured a few bats from the wild to be used as experimental animals. They need to be fed every day. This Spring Festival, the students went home for a holiday, and Teacher Shi silently undertook the task of raising bats.”

44-year old Washington, D.C. man Lucas Wall has filed a lawsuit against seven different airlines and a separate lawsuit against TSA challenging mask mandates on airplanes. Wall is suing the airlines Frontier, Spirit, Delta, JetBlue, Allegiant, Alaska and Southwest in Orlando, Florida’s U.S. District Court, seeking over $300,000 in damages. Wall struggles to breathe in masks due to his generalized anxiety disorder, according to the plaintiff.
“The evidence is indisputable that all seven defendants for the past year or so during the COVID-19 pandemic have illegally discriminated against potentially millions of flyers with disabilities,” Wall said in a statement. “By refusing to grant any mask exemptions and/or requiring such an onerous exemption process that travelers such as myself with a medical condition that makes it impossible for them to cover their face are essentially banned from using the nation’s commercial aviation system.”

The Israeli military said its aircraft attacked Hamas armed compounds in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday in response to 20 fires sparked by incendiary balloons launched earlier in the day from the territory into southern Israel.

Mike Pompeo: Wuhan Lab Still Operational, Next Virus Could ‘Kill not Three Million, but 30 Million’

Identification of the novel coronavirus’s origin should be a priority of the U.S. government from both global health and national security perspectives, Pompeo held.
“We shouldn’t forget this lab is still up and running,” he said. “There [are] no increased safety measures that I’m aware of. Vladimir Putin Dismisses Joe Biden as ‘Career Man’ with Fake ‘Macho’ Posturing
During his first interview with an American news organization in three years, Russian President Vladimir Putin told NBC News on Monday he views President Joe Biden as a political “career man” prone to hollow “macho” posturing, such as an interview last year in which Biden referred to Putin as a “killer.”
Biden backed down from those remarks on Monday as he prepared for his scheduled meeting with Putin on Wednesday.
When NBC interviewer Keir Simmons asked Putin to contrast dealing with Biden versus his predecessor, Donald Trump, Putin made it clear he sees Biden as much easier to handle because he is a predictable lifetime professional politician, not a renegade outsider from beyond the “U.S. establishment” like Trump:
Well even now, I believe that former US President Mr. Trump is an extraordinary individual, a talented individual, otherwise he would not have become US President. He is a colorful individual. You may like him or not. And, but he didn’t come from the U.S. establishment.
He had not been part of big time politics before, and some like it some don’t like it but that is a fact. President Biden, of course, is radically different from Trump because President Biden is a career man. He has spent virtually his entire adulthood in politics.

“I do not remember any inappropriate elements of behavior on the part of my counterparts. I don’t think that anything like that has happened. Perhaps he did say something, but I do not remember,” Putin said.
Putin denied every allegation of misbehavior directed at his government, from directing or indulging cyberattacks against the United States to his brutal repression of domestic political opponents like imprisoned and outlawed dissident Alexei Navalny, whose name Putin refuses to speak.
Putin left Simmons sputtering in stunned outrage when he claimed he has no fear of political opponents and takes no actions to repress them, at one point grumbling that if Simmons truly believed in free speech, he would pipe down and let Putin finish answering his questions.

Pennsylvania Public Schools Received More Covid Aid Than Healthcare Providers
While the country fought a deadly pandemic for more than a year and schools remained closed, the education system in Pennsylvania received more federal aid than health care systems did.
The Keystone State collected more than $34 billion in federal aid, including through the CARES Act and the American Rescue Plan Act, according to the think tank Commonwealth Foundation.
But the bulk of that money did not go to the Department of Health, Medicaid programs, assisted living and nursing homes, vaccine distribution, hospitals, and other healthcare providers.
Public education received 29% ($10.1 billion) of the aid, while 24% ($8.2 billion) went to healthcare.
The Pennsylvania-based think tank found that while nursing homes received $944 million in grants from the Covid-19 aid bills, the Philadelphia School District alone got $1.8 billion.
Students were learning remotely — from home — or in a hybrid of school/home learning for most, if not all, the school year. Why did schools get $10.1 billion in federal aid on top of their annual state and federal aid?
The health system in Pennsylvania and the rest of the country struggled, and in some cases, failed, to provide adequate care during the pandemic. They should get the bulk of the Covid-19 funding, not special interests, which shuttered schools and stunted students’ growth.

GOP Legislation Aims To Punish China for COVID Lies
Legislators target Beijing in fight to discover origins of COVID
House Republicans are targeting the Chinese Communist Party for covering up the origins of the coronavirus pandemic and allowing it to escape the city of Wuhan, killing millions across the globe.
Reps. Rob Wittman (R., Va.) and Ann Wagner (R., Mo.) introduced bills Tuesday that order the imposition of Global Magnitsky Sanctions on Chinese Communist Party officials and health authorities, the same sanctions that are used to punish human rights abusers worldwide.
The World Deserves to Know Act, introduced by Wittman, would investigate research funding from the National Institutes of Health that may have played a role in the outbreak, applying pressure on efforts to discover the coronavirus’s origins. The measure also proposes banning future cooperation between U.S. colleges and Chinese research institutions that may have been implicated in the early stages of the coronavirus outbreak.
Wittman said the act will "pave the way to uncover the truth" about the coronavirus in order to prevent a future pandemic.
"We cannot allow China to impede a free and fair investigation into the origins of COVID-19," Wittman said. "Nor can we tolerate China’s suppression of information, which could prove critically important to preventing future pandemics. The sanctions imposed by the World Deserves to Know Act pave the way to uncover the truth about COVID-19’s origins."
The Compensation for Americans Act, introduced by Wagner, would redouble calls to sanction certain members of the Chinese Communist Party and establish a fund for the families of U.S. victims of the coronavirus. The bill would also strip China of its "developing nation" status at the World Trade Organization and bar the investment of U.S. pensions in China, among other economic punishments.
Wagner said her legislation would "send a message to China that the United States will not stand for such horrific acts."
"China took deliberate, reckless action that allowed the coronavirus to spread, killing millions worldwide," Wagner said. "This is not a matter up for debate, and they must be held accountable…. The Compensation for Americans Act will make sure China pays for their corrupt, unethical, and dangerous actions."
The bills advance a push among hawkish members of Congress to uncover the origins of the coronavirus pandemic, as suspicion grows that a lab leak from potentially U.S.-funded gain of function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology caused the virus's outbreak. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director Dr. Anthony Fauci, prominent media outlets, and Democratic leaders have denied such theories. A group of Republicans led by Rep. Mike Gallagher (Wis.) have called for more transparency and an investigation into the issue.
The inspector general's office for the Department of Health and Human Services announced on Tuesday it will open a probe into taxpayer funding of a U.S. partnership with the Wuhan Institute of Virology, including tax dollars given to the EcoHealth Alliance, a group that has come under fire from Republicans for its work with the lab.

Video: Israeli Aircraft Strike Targets in Gaza's Khan Younis, Yarmouk Camp
Israeli aircraft bombed targets in the Gaza Strip early Wednesday morning, less than a month after a ceasefire ended an 11-day Israeli bombing campaign against Hamas that killed hundreds and just hours after a march through Jerusalem by right-wing Israeli settler groups.
According to the Palestinian Shehab News Agency, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) also hit targets in the Yarmouk refugee camp in the area of Maan Bakhaniounis, and Quraysh, south of Gaza City. Video of the airstrikes on Yarmouk camp were posted on social media.
The airstrikes are the first since Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett took office on Sunday, ousting longtime leader Benjamin Netanyahu.
The IDF said in a statement posted to Twitter after the strikes that they had been in response to the launching of incendiary balloons into Israeli territory and that Hamas is responsible for Israel's airstrikes. They claimed that "terrorist activity" took place in the attacked compound.
Several fires on Monday in the Negev Desert in southern Israel were blamed on incendiary balloons allegedly launched from Gaza.
Hazem Qassem, a spokesperson for Hamas, told Shehab that the Israeli bombing was a "failed attempt" to stop their solidarity and resistance with Jerusalem and a cover for the "unprecedented state of confusion" after the Israeli government authorized a "Flag Day" march in Jerusalem.
The airstrikes come hours after right-wing Israeli groups marched through Palestinian neighborhoods in Jerusalem, celebrating the city's capture from Jordan in the 1967 Six-Day War. Jerusalem has been a site of intense struggle over the last few months as Palestinian families in the districts of Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan resist removal by Israeli authorities. Israeli police cleared the march's path, blasting Palestinian counter-protesters with water hoses and arresting 17 near the Damascus Gate, another site of protest in recent months. Israeli police said they were throwing stones and "disturbing the peace." Two Israeli officers were also wounded.
Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh called the march a "provocation of our people and an aggression against our Jerusalem and our holy sites," and Palestinian authorities in the West Bank called for a "Day of Rage" against the march.
Wednesday morning's airstrikes come less than a month after Israel reached a ceasefire with Hamas that ended 11 days of airstrikes and rocket attacks. More than 250 Palestinians were killed in Gaza by Israeli bombs and 13 Israelis were killed by Hamas rocket attacks, which were launched beginning on May 10 in response to violence against Palestinians in Jerusalem, including an incident in which Israeli police stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque, injuring hundreds.

Chief of Naval Operations Michael Gilday refused to condemn the conspiracy theory that white people created AIDS during a testy exchange with Republican Indiana Rep. Jim Banks over critical race theory (CRT) in the military.
“Do you personally consider the conspiracy theory that white people started AIDS to be an extremist belief?” Banks asked Gilday. The question referenced a college newspaper column written by Ibram X. Kendi, who later went on to write a book on antiracism.
Banks submitted a letter to Gilday in February demanding that the Navy explain why the book was included on its reading list. He is one of many Republicans who have frequently criticized the U.S. military’s inclusion of books that promote concepts like CRT.
CRT holds that America is fundamentally racist, yet it teaches people to view every social interaction and person in terms of race. Its adherents pursue “antiracism” through the end of merit, objective truth and the adoption of race-based policies.
“I’d have to understand the context in which these statements are made,” Gilday responded. “I’m not going to sit here and defend cherry-picked quotes from somebody’s book. I’m not going to do that.”
“That is a simple question. Admiral, this is a book that you recommended every sailor in the U.S. Navy read,” Banks interjected.
Gilday then pivoted to a series of left-wing talking points about racism in America.
“This is a bigger issue than Kendi’s book. What this is really about is painting the U.S. military, in this case, the U.S. Navy, as weak, as woke, and we’ve had sailors that spent 341 days at sea last year with minimal port visits,” Gilday said.
“Our strength is in our diversity, and our sailors understand that,” he added. “Racism in the U.S. is a very complex issue. What we benefit from is an open discussion about those issues. That we don’t try to ignore and rewrite it, but we actually have a discussion about it and there will be various views and I trust sailors will come to an understanding of hopefully separating from fact from fiction.”

Trump will visit border on June 30, says America 'is now one giant sanctuary city'
Trump said that the border is "an unmitigated disaster zone."
Former President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he will visit the nation's southern border with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on June 30.
The announcement comes amid a surge of migrants along the southern border. Trump described the present situation "an unmitigated disaster zone" and pointed out that neither President Biden nor Vice President Harris have gone to visit the border since taking office.
"I have accepted the invitation of Texas Governor Greg Abbott to join him on an official visit to our Nation's decimated Southern Border on Wednesday, June 30, 2021," Trump said. "The Biden Administration inherited from me the strongest, safest, and most secure border in U.S history and in mere weeks they turned it into the single worst border crisis in U.S history. It's an unmitigated disaster zone.
"We went from detain-and-remove to catch-and-release. We went from having border security that was the envy of the world to a lawless border that is now pitied around the world. Biden and Harris have handed control of our border over to cartels, criminals, and coyotes. Drug dealers, MS-13 gang members, human smugglers, sex traffickers, and the criminal elements of the world now have free reign. Hospitals and schools are getting crushed and public health is being sacrificed all in service of a radical left anti-borders agenda. Online Sex Operation Using Fake Teen Girl Lands 5 Arrests: Police
WOODSTOCK, GA — Five men have been arrested after they arrived at locations to meet and have sex with what they thought was a 16-year-old girl, Woodstock Police said.
Woodstock Police, in conjunction with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, conducted an operation targeting online predators, the department said in a news release.
During the weeklong undercover online chat operation, the five men arranged to meet at undisclosed locations with someone they each believe was a teenaged girl with whom they would have sex, police said.
Warrants will also be secured for the arrest of additional people as part of the operation. The names of those additional individuals are withheld until the investigation is completed.
Here are the men police arrested:
David Lara, 30, of Canton, was charged with enticing a child to commit an indecent act, criminal attempt of child molestation, and criminal attempt of aggravated child molestation.
Tagboo Nkemakonam Ezenna, 28, of Lithia Springs, was charged with child exploitation, criminal attempt of child molestation, and criminal attempt of enticing a child for indecent purposes.
Ethan Leo Amuer, 20, of Alpharetta, was charged with sexual exploitation of a child, criminal attempt of child molestation, and criminal attempt of sodomy.
Mark Allen Blanton, 57, of Woodstock, was charged with computer child exploitation.
Nicholas Dominguez, 24, of Canton, was charged with computer child exploitation, criminal attempt of child molestation.
The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Program was created by the Department of Justice to help state and local law enforcement agencies enhance their investigative response to the online sexual exploitation of children. It consists of members from the Georgia Bureau of Investigations and more than 220 affiliated law enforcement agencies and prosecutorial entities throughout the state.
