Van Morrison came out with new music earlier this year. I wasn't a fan of his but I bought the 2 CD set because proceeds will be given to musicians hard hit by the lockdowns of 2020 and early 2021. I didn't expect to like the music but the more I listen to it, the more I like it. It's basic blues, and the bonus is how based Van is. Here are some of the song titles and lyrics:

Where Have All the Rebels Gone? Van calls out, I presume, the 60's people who were called revolutionary, and aren't doing shit now.

Diabolic Pressure. Pleasing people is killing you.

Deadbeat Saturday Night. About the lockdown. Being alone, "no gigs, no choice, no voice."

Blue Funk. "Get out of the mire, come on up a little higher…." "Can't stop listening to the TV junk, Look how far we've sunk."

Double Agent. Some about the music biz and the shutdown. "One must succumb to the mind control, One gives his all to rock and roll, One is an asset of MI5, One keeps on looking at stars in their eyes."

Double Bind. "Mind control, keep you in line. Try to think outside the blind leading the blind. Try and break the double binds." This song gets into it.

Breaking the Spell. About getting out of the city and back to nature. Not done in a sappy way.

Dupers Delight. All about the liars. "Because you don't notice when they go under the radar, You don't notice when they keep on telling their lies. You don't see it when they hide behind the media. You don't notice when they smile. Called the dupers delight."

My Time After A While. It's their time now but they'll get caught soon.

He's Not the Kingpin. This song makes me think Van visits 8kun. Check this out: "Follow the money, Follow the story, Research it further…." And: "Used by the media, For their agenda, For their agenda. Who's shouting loudest? Who's getting comfy? Who's taking over…."

Stop Bitching, Do Something. About being called non-essential, obsolete. Shutdown bullshit. And people not doing shit about it.

Western Man. Starts with: "Western man has no plan, "Cause he became complacent, Stopped believing in himself. Let others steal his rewards, While he was dreaming."

They Own the Media. Yeah, he goes there.

Why Are You On Facebook? He really goes for answering that question.

There are 27 songs in all. A few other songs I didn't mention go into world affairs, but the rest of the new music is about music, love and life, like most music does. I'm really impressed with where Van goes with the lyrics. Not protest, but saying people need to wake up. This music just may wake up normies where "just talk" doesn't get through. Definitely thought provoking. And it helps support musicians, who BTW, cannot collect unemployment.
