Real Justice PAC Endorses Tahanie Aboushi in the Manhattan D.A. Race

β€œNew York, NY – Today, the Real Justice PAC endorsed Tahanie Aboushi in her race to become the next District Attorney in Manhattan. Real Justice is the first national PAC to make an endorsement in the already crowded race, which will be held in June of 2021. Real Justice has a long record of endorsing winning candidates in prosecutor races. Already this year, RJP-backed candidates won hotly contested primaries in Travis County, Texas (Austin), the 9th Judicial Circuit, Florida (Orlando), and Saint Louis City, and all three are expected to sail to victory in the general election. Real Justice PAC has helped elect progressives like Larry Krasner (Philadelphia), Rachael Rollins (Boston/Suffolk County), Wesley Bell (Saint Louis County), Kim Foxx (Chicago/Cook County), Joe Gonzales (San Antonio/Bexar County), and Stephanie Morales (Portsmouth, VA), to name a few. The group is one of the most successful organizations working in the prosecutor reform movement.”

β€œThe next District Attorney in Manhattan will have to change a culture that has pushed Black and marginalized people into jail and prison while giving free passes to the wealthy – like Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr.,” says Shaun King of Real Justice PAC. . .”

As Manhattan DA, Tahanie will:

β€’ Decline to prosecute a range of charges pertaining to and support full decriminalization of crimes of poverty, mental illness, sex work, and substance use disorder.

β€’ Never seek cash bail – it creates two systems of justice, one for the rich and one for the poor – and will instead work with community leaders to create holistic pretrial services.

β€’ Never seek civil asset forfeiture, and instead will reinvest existing forfeiture funds into the community.

β€’ End court-imposed fines-and-fees that coerce and punish poverty.

β€’ Partner with appropriate departments to create infrastructure that supports community-based mental health treatment.

β€’ Support full decriminalization of sex work.

β€’ Never prosecute any recreational drug use or possession, advocate for marijuana legalization and work to make sure the benefits of legalization help communities targeted by the failed war on drugs.

β€’ We will work with public health, housing, and environmental officials to facilitate safe consumption sites to combat the opioid epidemic.

β€œ. . .The Real Justice PAC will seek to win county prosecutor races by testing, iterating and scaling the "big organizing" approach outlined in the book Becky Bond co-authored titled: "Rules for Revolutionaries: How Big Organizing Can Change Everything." The PAC will also leverage social media, digital tools and the voices of a new generation of leaders like Shaun King who are organizing massive audiences to take action locally and nationally through rapid response campaigns.”
