US student, ex-Marine found dead in Russia after cryptic text: ‘I hope I’m not being abducted’
A female former U.S. Marine has turned up dead in Russia after catching a ride with a stranger and nervously texting her mom, "I hope I’m not being abducted,’’ according to reports.
The body of Catherine Serou, a 34-year-old law student and veteran from California, was found Saturday morning in a forest outside the Bor suburb where she lived in western Russia — about an hour after a 44-year-old man was arrested in her disappearance, said the Moscow Times and NPR.

Fifth presidential hopeful arrested in Nicaragua
A fifth would-be candidate for the Nicaraguan presidency was detained Sunday, police said, part of a mounting crackdown by President Daniel Ortega ahead of elections this year.
Miguel Mora, a journalist, was arrested at his home Sunday night for "inciting foreign interference in internal affairs and requesting military intervention," according to authorities.

U.S. Supreme Court rebuffs insurers on Obamacare reimbursements
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear a bid by health insurance companies to seek a full reimbursement from the federal government under a provision of the Obamacare law aimed at encouraging them to offer medical coverage to uninsured Americans.
The justices turned away appeals brought by private insurers Maine Community Health Options, Community Health Choice Inc and Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative.
The insurers had said they were collectively owed millions of dollars for each year they did not receive payments the government had pledged to make under the 2010 law, formally called the Affordable Care Act. Litigation will now continue in lower courts over how much the insurers can claim.

President-elect Raisi backs nuclear talks, rules out meeting Biden

Israel says it is developing airborne laser to down drones
JERUSALEM, June 21 (Reuters) - Israel's Defence Ministry and defence contractor Elbit Systems Ltd (ESLT.TA) are developing an airborne laser weapon to shoot down drones and other flying targets, officials said on Monday, predicting a prototype would be ready by 2025.
They said the as-yet unnamed laser weapon could be incorporated in Israel's multi-tier air defences, which include the Iron Dome system for downing short-range rockets and the David's Sling and Arrow systems against ballistic missiles.

U.S. slaps Belarus-related sanctions on more than a dozen individuals, entities
WASHINGTON, June 21 (Reuters) - The United States on Monday imposed Belarus-related sanctions on 16 individuals and five entities, according to the U.S. Treasury Department website, increasing pressure on Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko.
Among those blacklisted by the Treasury were the State Security Committee of the Republic of Belarus as well as the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption of the MVD of the Republic of Belarus.

Swedish PM Lofven ousted by parliament in no-confidence vote
STOCKHOLM, June 21 (Reuters) - Swedish centre-left Prime Minister Stefan Lofven was ousted in a no-confidence vote in parliament on Monday, leaving him to decide whether to call a snap election or resign to hand the speaker the job of finding a new government.
Lofven, who was defeated after nearly seven years in power over a plan to ease rent controls for new-build apartments, has a week to reach his decision. If he opts for a snap election, it would be Sweden's first since 1958.

Jordan ex-royal court chief pleads not guilty to destabilising monarchy
AMMAN, June 21 (Reuters) - A former Jordanian royal court chief and a low-ranking member of the royal family pleaded not guilty on Monday to charges of agitating to destabilise the monarchy, one of their lawyers said.
Prosecutors had referred to a military court the case of Bassem Awadallah, an ex-royal court chief and finance minister who played a big role in the drive to liberalise Jordan's economy, and Sherif Hassan Zaid, a distant relative of King Abdullah.
