Incredible photos have revealed the life of cross-dressing British prisoners of war who kept up morale for their comrades by performing in pantomimes and even holding dances in Nazi camps.

 

But while the actors were a far cry from the glamorous and vibrant queens of the present day - their productions where a smash hit with prisoners and guards alike.

 

Pulling on a dress and heels was particularly popular in officers' camps and performers were 'admired' by their fellow prisoners, who sometimes often felt 'attracted' to them.
