Brazilian court clears ex-President Lula of corruption charges in another legal win

Brazil’s former leftist president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, scored a fresh legal victory on Monday after a federal court acquitted him of passive corruption charges relating to alleged political favors, citing lack of evidence.

In 2017, Lula was accused of having granted political favors to automobile companies in exchange for donations of 6 million reals (around $1.2 million) to the campaign of his Workers' Party (PT). The charges against the ex-president and other officials were filed after ‘Operation Zelotes’, which was launched by police to investigate alleged fraud and bribery in the sector.

But on Monday, federal judge Frederico Viana ruled that the case against the former president “lacks elements” that can substantiate any conviction against him and the other defendants.

“It is prudent and reasonable to pronounce an acquittal” of the ex-president, his former chief of staff, Gilberto Carvalho, and five other officials and businessmen, the judge said.

During his testimony last year, Lula denied the accusations, insisting that he never did any favors for the automobile firms.

In March, the court annulled all sentences handed to the 75-year-old political veteran under ‘Operation Lava Jato’ (‘Car Wash’) – a major anti-graft investigation in which three ex-presidents and numerous officials were indicted.

That ruling gave Lula the right to run for president again in 2022. He hasn’t yet announced plans to join the race, but recent polls put him ahead of Brazil’s current leader, Jair Bolsonaro, by 41% to 23% in the first round.

Lula remains highly popular in the country, which underwent a period of rapid economic growth during his years in office from 2003 to 2010, and saw millions escape poverty through his welfare programs.

Oxford University may enlist ‘SENSITIVITY READERS’ to censor student publications to protect readers from being offended – media

The Oxford University Student Union is reportedly looking to ideologically sanitize the school’s media outlets, including the century-old Cherwell newspaper, by employing “sensitivity readers” to censor problematic content.

Oxford’s governing student council overwhelmingly passed a motion last month to allow the student union (SU) to set up a “student consultancy of sensitivity readers,” who would be elected and paid to screen articles by Cherwell and other outlets, the Telegraph reported on Sunday. Readers would block the publication or broadcast of “problematic” content, such as articles they deem to be “implicitly racist or sexist.”

SU leaders have claimed Cherwell needs “better editing” because of its “high incidences of insensitive material.” The union reportedly received complaints from offended students alleging that the newspaper had published bigoted articles and “generally inaccurate and insensitive” opinions.

Other Oxford media outlets, including The Oxford Blue, may also be subject to the new wokeness vetting. Both Cherwell and The Oxford Blue told the Telegraph they hadn’t been notified by the SU about the new vetting.

Former Cherwell editor Michael Crick, now a Daily Mail journalist, called the move “horrific” and told the Telegraph it was like an authoritarian government demanding to screen and change press reports before they were published. “The answer to all of these things is pluralism,” he said. “If you’re going to have a boring, dull, vetted newspaper, then nobody’s going to read it.”

Oxford has been number one for five straight years in The Times Higher Education World University Rankings. The university is so influential that 28 of the 55 prime ministers in UK history were Oxford alumni, leading some to worry that the increasingly authoritarian bent of its student leadership may portend a shift away from individual liberty in the country’s politics.

“Just wait until these kids grow up and rule the world,” one Twitter user said. Author Larry Sanger suggested that, if sensitivity readers are employed at Oxford, Britons should “expect the same at real newspapers soon.”

Earlier this month, students at Oxford’s Magdalen College voted to remove a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II from their common room because they perceived it to symbolize colonialism. Just last month, Oxford’s Oriel College board rejected demands by student campaigners to remove a statue of imperialist mining magnate Cecil Rhodes, but it agreed to employ an “equality, diversity, and inclusion” tutor and require staff to take more race-awareness training.

SU issued a statement rebuking Oriel’s governing body for declining to cancel the statue. “Cecil Rhodes is a symbol of colonialism, white supremacy, and racism, all of which have no place in Oriel College nor any other part of this university,” the union said. The group added that “dismantling systemic racism” was one of Oxford’s greatest challenges and that “Oriel College must do better, and Rhodes must fall.”

US State Department will fly extra-woke ‘Progress’ flag for end of Pride Month

With its embassies around the world flying the rainbow colors for Pride Month, the US State Department will display the ‘Progress’ flag at home, which features extra stripes for transgender, intersex and people of color.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced on Monday that the State Department in Washington, DC will fly the ‘Progress’ flag between June 26 and June 28 – commemorating the anniversaries of the 2015 Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage, and the 1969 Stonewall Riots, respectively.

“I think this is going to be a significant couple of days, and we will see the Progress flag flying at the State Department,” Blinken said during an LGBT-focused event held by the Atlantic Council, a NATO-backed think tank.

The flag itself takes the standard eight-striped rainbow design of the 1970s-era Pride flag and adds a number of colored chevrons representing those who identify as transgender (light blue and pink) and people of color (black and brown). Some versions include a yellow triangle with a purple circle to represent intersex people. The design was dreamed up in 2018 by Portland-based designer Daniel Quasar, who uses “xe/xem pronouns,” and updated again this year by Intersex Equality Rights UK.

The ever-expanding list of categories rolled into the flag has been criticized online. Writing for RT earlier this month, author Chris Sweeney described it as “essentially morphing into a symbol for anyone who’s not white and heterosexual.”

While the uber-woke flag will grace Foggy Bottom for a few days at the end of the month, the standard-issue pride flag will hang outside US embassies and diplomatic outposts around the world for the duration of June. Even in Vatican City, home of the Catholic Church and residence of the Pope, the flag hung from a balcony outside the US embassy. It was, however, conspicuously absent from the US embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Speaking during Monday’s event, Blinken said it is “hugely important” for US embassies to fly the Pride flag to show support for the “defense, support, the protection of the LGBTQI persons around the world."

Blinken has also authorized embassies to fly ‘Black Lives Matter’ banners for the rest of the year. Former President Donald Trump’s administration, by contrast, only allowed the American flag to fly outside US embassies.

Nearly 4,000 women report menstrual problems including heavy bleeding and delayed periods after getting their Covid vaccine – but watchdog insists there's no proof jabs are to blame

Issues have primarily affected women aged between 30 and 49, MHRA has said

Reports have typically involved 'heavier than usual' bleeding or a delayed period

But no evidence they are occurring more commonly than normally expected

Nearly 4,000 women have suffered period problems shortly after getting their Covid jab, Britain's vaccines watchdog has confirmed.

The issues, which have typically involved 'heavier than usual' bleeding or a delayed period, have primarily affected women aged between 30 and 49.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said it had received 2,734 reports linked to the AstraZeneca jab up to May 17.

Another 1,158 reported menstrual changes after receiving Pfizer's and a further 66 were linked to the recently deployed Moderna jab.

Experts said the number of women suffering from period problems will 'definitely' be higher because many don't take the time to report them through official channels.

The figures, obtained by the Sunday Times, have raised questions about why menstrual changes are not included on the MHRA's list of potential Covid jab side effects.

But the regulator said a review into the issue concluded that the symptoms were not happening more frequently in newly vaccinated women than the general population. It said it would continue to 'closely monitor' the situation.

MHRA chief executive Dr June Raine said: 'Alongside the independent experts of the Commission on Human Medicines and members of its Medicines for Women's Health Expert Advisory Group, we have reviewed reports of menstrual disorders and unexpected vaginal bleeding, suspected as adverse reactions to vaccination.

'The current evidence does not suggest an increased risk, following vaccination, with the UK's three Covid vaccines.

'The number of reports is low in relation to the number of women who have had the vaccine to date and the background rate of menstrual disorders generally.

'We continue to closely monitor these reports for potential signals.'

US Airline Advocacy Groups Call on DoJ, FAA for 'Public Prosecution' of Violent Travelers

Late last month, the US Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced it would be proposing civil penalties - ranging from $9,000 to $15,000 - against at least five unruly airline passengers. At the time, the FAA had logged a total of 2,500 similar reports of bad behavior, including 1,900 facemask incidents.

Ten airline advocacy groups, including Airlines for America and the Allied Pilots Association, issued a letter to the US Department of Justice (DoJ) on Monday, calling on the DoJ to pursue the "public prosecution" of violent airline passengers.

"Specifically, the federal government should send a strong and consistent message through criminal enforcement that compliance with federal law and upholding aviation safety are of paramount importance," read the letter, as reported by NBC News.

The organizations' plea comes months after the FAA announced it would be implementing a zero-tolerance policy toward rowdy or unruly passengers. Rather than receiving a warning, offenders would be slapped with fines and/or jail time, according to FAA Administrator Stephen Dickson in January.

One organization, Airlines for America, issued a separate letter to Dickson on the matter, calling for increased enforcement of onboard policies.

"Unfortunately, we continue to see onboard behavior deteriorating into heinous acts, including assaults, threats and intimidation of crewmembers that directly interfere with the performance of crewmember duties and jeopardize the safety and security of everyone onboard the aircraft," the organization said.

"We respectfully request that the FAA and other federal agencies amplify the messaging to reach all travelers about the proposed penalties in addition to using all resources, including the media, to put a very public spotlight on the sentences handed down to perpetrators."

Just last month, the FAA proposed to fine an airline passenger $52,500 - largest fine against an air traveler this year - after he punched a flight attendant in the face and tried to open the door to the aircraft's cockpit.

At the time, Dickson told ABC News that the "alarming increase" in disruptive, and sometimes violent passengers is something the FAA will "need to get under control."

"This is something we should all be concerned about," he added.

More recently, a male passenger aboard Delta Air Lines Flight 1730 from Los Angeles, California, to Atlanta, Georgia, attempted to open the cabin door mid-flight, and had to be restrained by fellow passengers and crew members. The man was later identified as a disgruntled, off-duty employee of the airline.

The State Convinced People It Was Dangerous For Them Not To Be Watched, Now Many Believe Surveillance Tech Is "For Our Own Good"

Yet another consequence of 2020 was the growth of public surveillance (aka Big Brother state) disguised under the umbrella of COVID. When you can convince a populace it is dangerous for them to be unobserved, you create the mindset that public surveillance is for the good of all.

Big Brother is bigger than ever

I work within the security industry.

One newer piece of technology that we can now install is AI fever monitoring cameras. Many buildings throughout the US now have a camera with thermal capabilities monitoring your every move when you walk in.

Should you be deemed somebody with a temperature outside of the preset bounds, the system will use facial recognition to lock onto you. As you travel throughout the facility, security staff/management is notified.

How is this any different from giving a polygraph to every person without their knowledge or consent?

Is this information the world at large needs to know?

Must you tell every business owner from here on all your recent health history to be admitted into the building? In the future, do I have to reveal every medical procedure I’ve had? Do I also have to report my sexual history, what foods I eat, and other private information before being allowed inside?

Consider the invasions of privacy that come from the utilization of thermal technology. The front desk staff now knows who has a problem with armpit sweat, how hot your crotch is, and whose butt is sweating.

Do HIPPA requirements apply here at all?

What happens if it’s discovered that heart rate is linked with an infectious disease? Will we then incorporate heart rate monitors throughout our facility? I hope you don’t get nervous speaking to that person you find attractive. What if an employee who doesn’t like you works the cameras? Isn’t that a violation of privacy?

What if it’s determined that abnormal sweating patterns are associated with an infectious disease? In this case, let’s say that it’s a sweaty butt. Are thermal cameras going to monitor everybody’s backsides in such an event?

Do you see how this can quickly grow into a terrifying experience?

Privacy is foundational to freedom

Update: The ‘National Task Force on Election Crises’ Isn’t Only Trying to Destroy the AZ Maricopa Audit, Members of the ‘Task Force’ Were Involved in GA Fulton County Election Too

The National Task Force on Election Crisis is not only meddling in the Arizona Senate’s Maricopa County audit. The ‘Task Force’ was present at the Fulton County Georgia election as well.

We first reported on the National Task Force on Election Crisis in early May. This ‘task force’ includes members who are all on the bus that hates President Trump and what he was doing to put America first. The individuals who were trying to destroy the election audit in Maricopa County were also members of this hidden task force.

Over the past few days, we have been able to tie some of these same individuals to those involved in the election activities in Fulton County Georgia during the election. For example, we identified Jennifer Morrell who is a member of the task force to the group she started labeled ‘The Election Group’ which was present in Georgia on Election Day and days after. We also know Morrell is heavily involved in besmirching the audit work currently going on in Maricopa County.

Something tells us this ‘Task Force’ isn’t done messing with the 2020 election.

Kiev’s Desperate Attempts To Provoke New War In Ukraine: 4 DPR Soldiers Killed Near Donetsk

According to the reports of the People’s Militia of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), on June 21, in the north-western suburbs of the city of Donetsk, four DPR soldiers were killed and five more were injured as a result of shelling by Ukrainian troops.

“Today, at 10.10 a.m., as a result of mortar fire on the positions of the People’s Militia units near the Lozove settlement, three of our servicemen were killed by the 28th separate motorized infantry brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and another was seriously wounded,” the report reads.

According to the reports of the local Ministry, after the shelling, at 1.30 p.m. an ambulance with the evacuation group that transported the wounded and the bodies of the dead was fired from the UAF positions in the settlement of Krasnogorovka. As a result, one DPR soldier was killed and four others were injured.

The UAF opened fire despite the ceasefire proclaimed in coordination with the Ukrainian representative office in the Joint Control and Coordination Commission.

Apparently, the Ukrainian command is desperate to provoke a response from its enemies in order to attract once again the fading attention of its NATO allies.

However, the recent events on the frontlines in Eastern Ukraine, as well as the updated format of the international discussion between the US and Russia, led to the fact that the perception of those considered as allies by the Ukrainian Nazis has changed.

There is an obvious explanation: the Ukrainian regime has played too long with its neo-Nazi ideology. Western puppet masters permit a lot for their clients, including lies, massacres, military provocations etc. But a red line remains: everything that the client does should be done the way that it could be easily wrapped in beautiful packaging and offered at its best to the Western internal audience.

Official Kiev is currently crossing this red line, particularly, carrying out the campaign of glorification of Nazi criminals; attempting to push on its ‘international allies’, providing blatant disinformation; covering incredible corruption, including the embezzlement of Western financial aid and, finally, obviously ignoring interests of their Western allies, whether Poland, Germany or the USA.

SCALP: Daszak Recused from COVID Commission After National Pulse Exposés.

Compromised scientist Peter Daszak has been removed from the Lancet’s COVID-19 commission following a number of leading exposés by The National Pulse investigative team surrounding Daszak’s work with the Chinese Communist Party.

See here for a number of Pulse scoops on Daszak.

The webpage for the Lancet’s Commission now reads: “recused from Commission work on the origins of the pandemic” under Daszak’s entry.

Daszak is a critical Fauci confidant and ally.

In early February, The National Pulse highlighted how Daszak had collaborated with the Wuhan Institute of Virology – believed by many including former Center for Disease Control and Prevention Director Robert Redfield to be the source of COVID-19 – for nearly two decades.

The National Pulse also unearthed Daszak’s detailed descriptions of the research he conducted alongside his “Chinese colleagues,” including “bat lady” Shi Zhengli, where he admits to manipulating bat coronaviruses into “killer viruses.” The collaborative research was funded in part by Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID), as Daszak divulged on a 2020 podcast, “we have 16,000 bat samples in a freezer in China that we collected using U.S. taxpayers’ money.”

Daszak, who has led conferences sponsored by Chinese Communist Party-run scientific organizations, has also co-authored studies funded by the Chinese government and participated in conferences conducted by state-run media outlets. Daszak has also claimed that people “misunderstand the Chinese government” while defending the regime’s handling of COVID-19.

Australian Senate Bans Marxist Critical Race Theory from Aussie Classrooms

The Australian Senate voted on Monday to ban the Marxist Critical Race Theory from classrooms Down Under.

The bill passed 30-28. There were 28 senators who believe the Marxist and racist indoctrination of children is totally acceptable.

Liberalism is a disease.

The Daily Telegraph reported:

The Senate voted Monday night to call on the federal government to keep contentious “critical race theory” doctrines out of the national curriculum.

By a vote of 30-28, the Senate supported a notice of motion put forward by One Nation leader Pauline Hanson calling “on the federal government to reject critical race theory from the national curriculum.”

Critical race theory is a contentious set of doctrines with roots in academia that believes societies like Australia are built on structural racism and that people can be divided into categories of “oppressor” or “oppressed” based on their race, gender, or ethnicity.

A proposed revised version of the Australian Curriculum came under fire earlier this year when critics claimed that it was introducing critical race theory concepts into the classroom and downgrading Australia’s British and Judeo-Christian heritage.

Mitch McConnell: Democrats Want to ‘Rig the Rules of American Elections Permanently’ in Their Favor

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on Monday torched the Democrats’ election takeover bill on the Senate floor as a purely “partisan power grab” by the left “to rig the rules of American elections permanently” in their favor.

As the Senate looks to vote on the Democrats’ election bill this week, McConnell took to the Senate floor to explain what the Democrats are trying to accomplish with their radical agenda. “Senate Democrats entered June with an agenda that was designed to fail. The Democratic leader planned votes on a host of the left’s most radical priorities,” McConnell said.

“None of it was ever intended to clear the Senate’s appropriately high bar for advancing legislation. Instead, the failure of their partisan agenda was meant to show somehow — somehow — that the Senate itself was failing,” the minority leader added. “For months, our colleagues built anticipation for the failure.”

He explained that this “particular radical proposal” was the “same bad bill since the House introduced its version back in 2019,” which has the “same nakedly partisan motives.” He added that “ever since democrats got the election outcome they wanted last fall, we watched our colleagues actually update the rationale for their latest partisan power grab.”

McConnell further explained that the Democrats have claimed the use of a filibuster is a racist tactic and legislatures that have passed elections are racist as well. McConnell noted those have all since been debunked. He said, “Remember, the last presidential election saw the highest voter turnout in decades — even amidst a once-in-a-century pandemic.”

In the last election, “African American turnout was twice as high in Mississippi as it was in Massachusetts,” he said, adding states like Georgia have since passed laws to update their election process after “lessons learned” from the pandemic, but Democrats label them a “redux of Jim Crow.”

“Even left-leaning fact checks debunked the claims,” he clarified. After the “train of disinformation” started, the left made it so “any state that dared to deviate from unique pandemic-era procedures faced summary judgment in the court of liberal outrage.”

McConnell explained what the Republican state legislatures have done to ensure safe and secure elections:

It doesn’t seem to matter that the facts tell a different story. The bill that led Texas Democrats to exercise the rights of a legislative minority last month requires more counties to adhere to new minimum hours for early voting. The Oklahoma bill that expanded early voting for elections was passed by a Republican legislature and signed by a Republican governor.

In my state of Kentucky, the expansion of both online registration and early voting this spring passed on a bipartisan basis, and a Democratic governor signed it. Democrats will continue to insist that S.1 is a response to these state laws, but we know it actually predates them, and we’re starting to see that our colleagues’ latest rationale for S.1 can be flexible when needed.

McConnell said Democrats had been outspoken against voter ID, though an overwhelming majority support the effort:

Prominent Democrats have railed against voter ID requirements for years, but now that voter ID is among the sticking points keeping the Democratic caucus from uniting behind S.1, some Democrats have started indicating, well, they’ve had a change of heart. Now, I would commend them for coming around to commonsense positions on that issue that 80 percent of Americans already support, but one supposed compromise among some Democrats bears more than a passing resemblance to the partisan power grab their party has touted for years.

The senator explained that the Democrats in the Senate made it clear their “real driving force” to pass their partisan election takeover bill is their own “desire to rig the rules of American elections permanently, permanently in Democrats’ favor.”

Reason’s Matt Welch Confronts Alex Marlow with Debunked Charlottesville Hoax on C-SPAN

Matt Welch, editor at large for Reason, said he did not understand the “Charlottesville hoax” in an interview with Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow on C-SPAN’s After Words about the latter’s book, Breaking the News: Exposing the Establishment Media’s Hidden Deals and Secret Corruption.

Democrats, their news media allies, and the broader left regularly repeat the false claim that former President Donald Trump described “white supremacists” and “neo-Nazis” as “very fine people” following 2017’s demonstrations and riots in Charlottesville, VA. Breitbart News Senior Editor-at-Large Joel Pollak dubbed this oft-repeated falsehood the “Very Fine People Hoax.”

Welch contested the description of the above-mentioned false claim as a “hoax.” He said:

You have a subhead up near the top of the book called The Charlottesville Hoax, which is a phrase I’ve seen a lot in conservative media and in critiques of mainstream media. In that section you lament how, quote, “The fake news narrative that Trump said that there were ‘very fine people’ on both sides” — of that tragedy that happened in Charlottesville — “followed him around to the end of his presidency,” unquote,

The broader Trump quote that you do include in there [is him saying], “You had some very bad people in that group, but you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides.” So how is the very fine people [narrative] fake news when he kind of said that there’s very fine people on both sides?

I’ve seen this a lot, and I literally don’t understand why that is a hoax.

Marlow recalled how Trump specifically condemned “neo-Nazis” and “white nationalists” during a press conference following riots in Charlottesville. Trump said, “I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally — but you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists, okay?”

[relevant portion begins at 44:07]:

C-SPAN

Welch repeated his confusion over use of the term “hoax” to describe the aforementioned events despite his acknowledgement that Trump explicitly denounced white racial nationalists involved in Charlottesville’s protests. He said:

I saw [Trump’s] condemnation of the neo-Nazis myself, and internalized that. Yes, he condemned those people, and then he also said, ‘Very fine people on both sides.’ I just don’t see how that in itself is a hoax. So it’s your contention that people deliberately chopped off that other context and pretended that it didn’t exist?

Marlow recalled how the false narrative is continually used to frame Trump — and Trump’s supporters — as ideologically sympathetic to neo-Nazis.

He said, “Over time, it morphed into [Trump] called the neo-Nazis ‘very fine people,’ which he did not. He said specifically those are not the fine people.”

Opposing the removal of Confederate memorials, monuments, and statues from public grounds does not make one a neo-Nazi, Marlow added.

“They’re not [all] neo-Nazis,” Marlow said of demonstrators in Charlottesville opposing the removal of Confederate statues.

“Some of them were, and they were condemned. Some of them were not neo-Nazis and they don’t have to be condemned. To act like every single person there was a neo-Nazi is pretty laughable,” Marlow added.

He continued, “It was treated like it was the greatest hate crime in the history of the world, and we’ve had so much worse in this country. We’ve had so many horrible racial hate crimes..”

Marlow concluded, “We obsessed over this as a nation. We didn’t need to. It wasn’t nearly as bad as the media made it seem, and they tried to make it like Trump was at the center of it, which was just not true in the slightest.”
