I think this is what will happen.

Like NK, where the US has said it will support NK economically after nuke disarmament, I think the US will 'cut a deal' with Iran and support them afterwards.

That will look like Iran has had enough of the corrupt EU and decided to go with a more trusted trading partner.

Good optics for US (POTUS) and basically pans off the EU as greedy double-crossers; not to be trusted (feeds off the bad optics of VW shenanigans, for example).

Iran backed up by the US economically and militarily will also ease Mid-east tensions. Best route is to cut the EU out of all considerations and deal with Iran bilaterally, IMO.
