Defiant UK tells Putin 'You won't stop our ships' after Royal Navy destroyer’s face-off near Crimea

DEFIANT Britain last night warned Vladimir Putin he will not stop our ships from sailing past Crimea again after Russian boats failed to make a Royal Navy destroyer change course.

HMS Defender was buzzed by 20 Russian jets and chased by two armed coastguard vessels whose crews threatened to open fire, barking “change your course or I’ll fire”, in a dramatic stand-off in the Black Sea.

Ben Wallace, the defence secretary, told The Times on Wednesday night that "the Royal Navy will always uphold the international law of the sea and will not be impeded on innocent passage."

The Russian ministry of defence accused HMS Defender of entering its territorial waters to which it opened fire from the coastguard ship before dropping four bombs from aircraft above.

However, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense denied that bombs were dropped in the path of the warship and that the shots were directed at it.
