Mom of La. man slain at Seattle camp says city, its court partially to blame for his death

“So, he stabbed him 10 times before he took his life," Arabie's mother, Angela, said to a local television station while trying to hold back tears. "For what?”

She told KPLC-TV that her son left their southwest Louisiana home just over a month ago to seek out a better life in Seattle. Angela Arabie admitted that her son has had a troubled past but didn’t say what kind of trouble it was.

“The state of Washington has failed my son,” Arabie said, blaming Seattle. “That city is horrible. It’s a horrible, horrible place.”

She is angry that Sedejo, who had been arrested and booked into jail for beating and robbing another man identified as Richard Weisgerber was let out prematurely.

A King County prosecutor had asked that Sedejo be held on a bail of $50,000 in connection with the attack on Weisgerber, who had been taking pictures at the park in late April.

“In this case, we argued he was unlikely to appear for his court date and we also argued that he would commit another violent act,” said Casey McNerthney, spokesman for the King County Prosecutor’s Office.

>Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan said on Wednesday there are no immediate plans to remove the camp.
