Not where I live. If things really are that bad, my place of work may shut down, true - but the police, even if they wanted to, stand a snowball's chance in hell at imposing a lockdown. Including all city and county officers, there are maybe 50 total patrol/task officers in a region with over 30,000 people and 60% armament rate.

You could add in the national guard - but the state is pretty firmly against lockdowns and they don't really tip the scale that much - other than they have an operational air wing and B-2. So, you know…. Our national guard has F-15s and nukes.

Part of the answer to your question is that the atmosphere rotates at least in part with the earth. So your helicopter would drift with the wind.

The second one is that it depends on the velocity of the aircraft. Generally speaking, altitude hold does have to adjust pitch. However, air density decreases as you go up in altitude, which means less lift and/or less drag and thrust from the engines. Part of the reason aircraft fly high is because there is far less drag at altitude and better fuel economy. This is also how aircraft like the SR-71 can make intercontinental flights at mach 3+

I found it interesting, but yeah, when I saw it mention endchan, I pretty much figured that is what it would end up like - a wild goose chase.

Endchan is like a nihilist doomsday cult or something. They seem to think it's hilarious to intentionally distract and disrupt productive tasks and attempts to not destroy the world.
