NYC man who founded child sex abuse group jailed in child porn, abuse case

 

A Manhattan man who founded a nonprofit group to fight child sex abuse was hit with a hefty prison sentence Tuesday — for molesting a 15-year-old boy and collecting child porn.

 

Joel Davis, 25, was sentenced to 13 years behind bars after admitting to using an online dating app to entice a teen to meet up with him for sex in 2018, according to the US Attorney’s Office in Manhattan.

 

Davis, who launched a nonprofit called Youth to End Sexual Violence, pleaded guilty in January to engaging in sex with a child and possession and disseminating child pornography.

 

US Attorney Audrey Strauss said he “admitted to engaging in the very abhorrent behavior he had publicly pledged to fight.”

 

“Davis, who also claims to be a Nobel Prize nominee for his work with his organization, engaged in sex acts with a minor, recording them, and distributing that recording to others — including an undercover FBI agent,” she added.

 

Davis was sentenced to 13 years in prison on the top charge of enticing a child to engage in illegal sexual activity, prosecutors said.

 

He was also hit with five years each for possessing and distributing child pornography, with those sentences to be served concurrently, the office said.

 

Investigators said Davis had more than 3,700 child porn images and 330 videos when he was arrested, including images of children younger than 12 years old, the office said.

 

According to a criminal complaint, Davis enticed the teenage victim to go to his apartment in Manhattan on June 13, 2018, where he molested him.

High school teacher kills herself after she’s busted for sex with students

 

A former Alabama high school “teacher of the year” killed herself with a shotgun two days after she was busted for having sex with two teenage students.

 

Leslie Gillespie, 44, had been arrested Thursday, accused of rape and sodomy of two students at R.A. Hubbard High School who were 15 and 16 at the time, AL.com reported.

 

She was found dead Saturday in her home in Hillsboro in the northern part of the state, the report said.

 

“It appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Lawrence County coroner Scott Norwood told the publication.

 

An autopsy is reportedly pending.

 

The English teacher was out on $60,000 bail after her arrest on Thursday. One teen had claimed he and another student visited Gillespie in her classroom after school for the salacious acts, according to court records obtained by WAFF 48.

 

She had met the students in class in September 2020, a year after she was named the high school’s teacher of the year, reports said.

 

Gillespie had also been charged with two counts of being a school employee engaging in sex with a student.

 

After her arrest, the superintendent of Lawrence County school issued a statement saying he was aware an employee had been arrested.

 

“While the district cannot provide any specific details at this time, we want to emphasize that there is nothing more important to Lawrence County Schools than the safety and well-being of our students,” Superintendent Jon Bret Smith said, according to WAFF.

 

“The district will work diligently and expediently to resolve the situation.”

Bill Gates’ wife has been talking to divorce lawyers for more than 18 months — and was concerned in part by his ties to pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, according to a bombshell report Sunday.

 

Melinda Gates, 56, has been working with lawyers at several firms since at least October 2019 — the same month her husband was first exposed as having repeatedly met Epstein at his Manhattan mansion, the Wall Street Journal said, citing sources and divorce documents.

 

The Microsoft co-founder’s dealings with the convicted pedophile had been a source of concern for his wife, sources told the paper.

 

Melinda Gates — a global advocate for women and girls — had already warned her billionaire tech-mogul husband that she was uncomfortable with Epstein after they both met him in 2013, the outlet’s sources confirmed of earlier reports.

 

In 2013, the Microsoft multibillionaire also allegedly flew on Epstein’s so-called “Lolita Express” private jet from New Jersey to Palm Beach, Florida, according to flight records.

 

Yet despite Melinda’s concerns, Gates and some staff from their Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation maintained ties with the sick financier — who killed himself in his Manhattan lockup in August 2019, where he was awaiting further serious sex charges, the WSJ said.

 

After the initial expose of his meetings, Gates put his meetings with Epstein down to a “mistake in judgment.”

 

His wife was already meeting with lawyers, however, with the couple negotiating their divorce throughout the COVID-19 pandemic until their shock announcement last Monday, the report noted.

 

In that period, the couple had unexpectedly pulled out of the World Economic Forum gathering of leaders in Davos, Switzerland — and Gates also resigned from the boards of Microsoft and Berkshire Hathaway.
