The agency had gained access to highly-advanced technology. This was sanctioned to be used only on foreign adversaries in order to protect the nation. Soon the agency discovered that it could be "secretly" used against politicians in order to "control them". That control was then used to garner even more power, and to be allowed to use more technology (which was previously forbidden). This new power and tech was eventually turned against big corporations, and finally the populace. The agency now has such a strong hold on everything, so stripping them of this power would be nearly impossible.
There was a knock on his door just afterward. Two men told him "you must come with us". He has since not been seen again.

Bill Gates is buying up farm land like it's going out of style, and not doing anything with it. No farming, no crops, no livestock. Just sitting on it…creating a shortage.
