It's not "the coronavirus" in that patent, but an attenuated one in an attempt to create a vaccine.
Coronaviruses have been around for all of history, so to think that someone patented "the
coronavirus" in 2017 is laughable. We're all exposed to dozens, if not hundreds of coronaviruses
every day, and have been for all our lives, nearly all of which were stronger at one point.
Natural selection weeds out the dangerous ones almost always (can't spread a respiratory virus if you're dead).
