Supreme Court order ends congressional Democrats' attempts to determine if Trump lied in Mueller probe

 

(CNN)Congressional Democrats' years-long attempt to nail down whether then-President Donald Trump lied to special counsel Robert Mueller effectively ended on Friday, with the US Supreme Court wiping away court decisions where the House Judiciary Committee was told it could access secret grand jury records from key witnesses in the Mueller investigation.

 

The House now won't get those grand jury records – bringing to a close Democrats' pursuit of what witnesses in the Mueller investigation said confidentially under oath about their interactions with Trump and others during the 2016 campaign.

 

Since 2019, the Judiciary Committee had sought access to records from the Mueller investigation's grand jury proceedings, which were cited in Mueller's report on Russian interference in the 2016 election. The House had repeatedly said it wanted the records so it could consider whether to impeach Trump for attempting to obstruct the Russia investigation, which Mueller also documented.

Ohio federal judge blocks Biden administration from enforcing tax cut ban in stimulus package

 

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A federal judge in Ohio has blocked the Biden administration from preventing Ohio from using money it got from a federal coronavirus relief bill to pay for tax cuts, ruling in favor of a lawsuit from state Attorney General Dave Yost.

 

Congress designed the American Rescue Plan Act, which will send billions in federal funds to the state and local governments in Ohio, so that states could not use the money to pay for tax cuts. But U.S. Southern District of Ohio Judge Douglas R. Cole wrote “the Tax Mandate’s language falls short of what settled law requires in terms of such clarity,” and issued a permanent injunction blocking the U.S. Treasury Department from enforcing it in Ohio.

 

The ruling is narrowly written so that it does not apply nationwide, said Jonathan Adler, a constitutional law professor at Case Western Reserve University. Cole is a 2019 appointee of then-President Donald Trump.

 

Yost, a Republican, issued a statement calling the decision a win.

 

“The Biden administration reached too far, seized too much and got its hand slapped,” Yost said. “This is a monumental win for the preservation of the U.S. Constitution - the separation of powers is real, and it exists for a reason.”

 

The agency could appeal to a higher court. A U.S. Treasury Department spokesperson said agency officials are considering their next steps

My body, my choice. If I chose to get the bug that they created, that's my problem and my freedom to do so. Those that are vaccinated have nothing to fear from me. The only fear they will have is the vaxx creating the variants in their system that is if the vaxx doesn't get them first. The people who are not vaxxed share my sentiments and choose as I do. That's our freedom and we go fourth bravely into the unkown..
