Anons: Research request on L-Lactic Acid,

now used in Windex Multisurface disinfectant cleaner instead of ammonia - and is listed as the only active ingredient in that product.

Thought it was glass cleaner, but noticed it left a film on the windows.

Per Wikipedia, it's fermented and an organic bacterial process…

"d-Lactic acid and l-lactic acid have a higher melting point. Lactic acid produced by fermentation of milk is often racemic, although certain species of bacteria produce solely (R)-lactic acid. On the other hand, lactic acid produced by anaerobic respiration in animal muscles has the (S) configuration and is sometimes called "sarcolactic" acid, from the Greek "sarx" for flesh."

Is straight ammonia better for cleaning? At least that never left a residue.
