Gettysburg address was given at the dedication of the military graveyard on Cemetery Hill. There is another, older, civilian graveyard on that hill. It has a name.

History is full of symbolism. Gettysburg was july 1-3. Lee was allowed to leave peacefully on July 4th 1863. Meade could've slaughtered them as they left, but didn't.
The battle of Vicksburg and surrender of the confederates was on July 4th.
