Quite common. It's always a guessing game as to when a storm will turn inland and who gets hit with it. Might hit NC, maybe NYC, Boston,… or swirl back out to sea.

Everyone is tracked and recorded. If enough flags pop up on you, then your data gets sifted. Before that, it just sits there.
