Copper = CU (cuprum-copper of the isle of Cipro-→birthplace of Venus*)
*There are several myths about the birth of the goddess, but the best known are those handed down by Hesiod and Homer. Hesiod claimed that she sprang from the seed of Uranus, god of the sky, when her genitals fell into the sea following the castration perpetrated by her son Saturn to avenge Gaea, his mother and wife of Uranus. The blood and semen they contained became foam from which Venus emerged near the island of Cyprus (aphròs in Greek means foam). According to Homer, however, Venus would be the daughter of Jupiter and the nymph of the oceans Dione and was born from a shell that came out of the sea.
In reality, already in the early Renaissance frames (for mirrors and paintings) were decorated with shells and acanthus leaves.
