Excuse my ignorance but how does anyone maintain a deadmans switch while in prison? Only way I can think of is in coordination with someone outside the prison.

It's highly doubtful that modern LE would not confirm his identity via fingerprints, tatts, scars etc so a body double in prison seems unlikely in the extreme IMO.
