>Pence Physically Confronted Trump and "Lost It" Claims New Book

Mike Pence reportedly once 'lost it' after Trump threw a crumpled newspaper article at him

Former Vice President Mike Pence reportedly "lost it" and "snarled" at former President Donald Trump in 2018 after getting a crumpled up newspaper article thrown at him.

A new piece in The Wall Street Journal adapted from reporter Michael Bender's book Frankly, We Did Win This Election describes the conflict that arose between Trump and Pence in early 2021 when the vice president was set to preside over the certification of the election results. The report describes how Pence "wasn't practiced in confronting" Trump, with the only example that administration officials could think of dating back to 2018.

At the time, Pence's political committee had just hired Trump's adviser Corey Lewandowski, and Trump reportedly held up an article about the news while complaining it made him look weak and like "his team was abandoning him." Trump reportedly then "crumpled the article and threw it at his vice president," saying, "So disloyal." At that point, the report says Pence "lost it," growing frustrated because Jared Kushner had asked him to hire Lewandowski and he had discussed the plan to do so with Trump.

"Mr. Pence picked up the article and threw it back at Mr. Trump," Bender reports. "He leaned toward the president and pointed a finger a few inches from his chest. 'We walked you through every detail of this,' Mr. Pence snarled. 'We did this for you โ€” as a favor. And this is how you respond? You need to get your facts straight.'

Ex-FBI agent linked to Whitey Bulger to be freed from prison

BOSTON (AP) โ€” A former FBI agent convicted of second-degree murder for leaking information to Boston gangster James โ€œWhiteyโ€ Bulger that led to the shooting death of a gambling executive will be released from prison on medical grounds, officials ruled Wednesday.

The Florida Commission on Offender Review voted 2-1 in favor of releasing 80-year-old John Connolly, who has cancer and is believed to have less than a year to live.

Connolly, who was Bulgerโ€™s FBI handler, was sentenced to 40 years behind bars after being convicted in 2008 in the killing of World Jai Alai President John Callahan in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 1982. Connolly tipped off Bulger and another gangster, Stephen โ€œThe Riflemanโ€ Flemmi, that Callahan was about to implicate the gang in a killing, authorities said.

Israeli study points to nicotine as a potential therapeutic for COVID-19

"The risk of infection by COVID-19 appears to be reduced by half among current smokers," researchers have found.

Smoking may offer some protection against the coronavirus, an Israeli study has found. The results support recent similar findings by researchers in France, China and Italy, although a British study has found the opposite.

Noting that conflicting reports exist regarding the impact of smoking on the likelihood of contracting the coronavirus, the Israeli team led by Dr. Ariel Israel undertook a population-based study pulling in data from over three million adult members of the Clalit Health Service, Israel's largest healthcare provider.

Their results, presented in a non-peer reviewed paper published in medRxiv on Friday, found that "the risk of infection by COVID-19 appears to be reduced by half among current smokers."
