Miami-Dade courthouse built in 1928 closes for repairs due to safety concerns following nearby condo collapse
The Miami-Dade County Courthouse will undergo urgent repairs after a safety review sparked by a deadly building collapse last month found safety concerns
The decision to review the courthouse and other county buildings was made 'out of an abundance of caution,' officials said
It comes in response to the collapse of the 12-story Champlain Towers South
At least 86 people died in the collapse and 43 people remain missing, feared dead in the building's debris - rescuers have ended their search for survivors
Engineer's report of the courthouse identified safety concerns with various floors and recommended floors 16 and above be closed to staff
All staff are now being required to work from home following the closure having only recently returned to work because of the coronavirus pandemic
The Miami-Dade County Courthouse will begin undergoing repairs immediately because of safety concerns found during a review prompted by the deadly collapse of a nearby condominium building, officials said.
An engineering firm that examined the 28-story courthouse recommended that it undergo immediate structural repairs and that floors 16 and above be closed.
All courthouse employees, including those who work on lower floors, will return to working from home, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and other leaders said in a joint statement late Friday.
