Juror Fined $11K for Causing Mistrial by Telling Jurors ICE Officer’s Patch Is a White Supremacist Badge

A New Jersey trial was stopped and a juror was fined thousands of dollars after he disobeyed a judge and Google-searched a patch on the uniform of a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer, believing it to be a symbol for white supremacy.

The case of U.S. v. Kevin Ruiz-Quezada is a perfect example of how deep the leftist rot of identity politics has affected every aspect of modern life. Even ICE uniforms are being mistaken for or interpreted as symbols of a non-existent system of colonial supremacy and prejudice, according to reports.

A New Jersey federal court was trying a man named Kevin Ruiz-Quezada in Camden for allegedly assaulting an ICE agent in December 2017 incident at Ruiz-Quezada’s home. The defendant was a permanent legal resident but was eligible for deportation to his home country of Nicaragua following two previous convictions.

Those convictions were for crimes “involving moral turpitude,” New Jersey’s Courier-Post reported.

When federal immigration officers went to arrest him in 2017, he allegedly attacked. Officers were pulled onto a living room table, according to the official complaint against the defendant.

One of the officers required minor surgery after the scuffle.

The accused was being tried for that alleged assault, but the trial was derailed thanks to the actions of a rogue juror who defied a judge and relied on an internet search engine to assist with research, the judge in the case said.

The Courier-Post reported a man named Stephen Meile was deliberating last month with other jurors when he and others became confused about a patch on an ICE uniform. Per the court, Meile had been told not to use books, the internet or other means to do his own research.

He allegedly ignored that order and went to Google for answers, only to be led to believe that the uniform patch was a logo for white supremacy, the U.K. Daily Mail reported.

Meile then shared his findings with other jurors.

The Department of Justice said in a media release that Meile had been fined $11,227, as his actions caused U.S. District Judge Robert B. Kugler to find him in contempt of court and to declare a mistrial.

“Juror Number 7 was one of 12 jurors on a federal criminal trial held in Camden federal court before Judge Kugler. Before and during the trial, Juror Number 7 and the other jurors were instructed repeatedly, both in writing and verbally, not to conduct any research about the case, including through use of the Internet,” the DOJ said.

Billionaires Gates & Soros reportedly step in to cover fraction of foreign aid cut by UK, but some question their intentions

In an apparent attempt to shame Boris Johnson’s government for its decision to cut Britain’s foreign aid, the who's who of the world of billionaire philanthropy are said to have pledged to cover a small part of the diverted money.

A group of international charities this week pledged to invest £93.5 million ($130m) into causes that will be missing money from the UK this year. The temporary funding will go to poor countries including Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nepal, Nigeria, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. It will be spent on programs including ones that treat neglected diseases and offer contraception.

The move, first reported by the Times on Sunday, is meant to shame the British government over the decision it took last year to reduce foreign aid. Previously, London allocated around 0.7% of the UK Gross National Income (GNI) to foreign assistance programs, but the Johnson cabinet cut this to 0.5%.

The 0.7% GNI benchmark was adopted as a target in the 1970s, when it was recommended by the UN, and made into law under the David Cameron government in 2015. Johnson’s reduction is estimated to amount to £4 billion ($5.56b) in 2021.

The aid cut, which was announced last November, was opposed by some members of Conservative Party, including former prime minister Theresa May who refused to make such cuts during her tenure. Then-foreign office minister Baroness Sugg resigned in protest when the measure was announced.

While many critics argue that denying struggling people funding for lifesaving assistance is contrary to Britain’s moral values, some politicians framed their opposition as a geopolitical calculation.

“When Britain withdraws, others step in. By cutting our aid, we have given states such as China and Russia an opportunity to expand their influence at Britain’s expense,” argued Tom Tugendhat, the Tory MP who chairs the Foreign Affairs Committee. “In fragile and conflict-affected states, UK cuts to humanitarian crises give space for our rivals to convince our friends we don’t matter.”

There has been a push in Parliament to put the reduction of aid to a vote, which the Johnson cabinet has so far successfully resisted. The government tried to appease detractors, saying the measure was temporary and was necessary to invest more into domestic spending.

Philanthropists and some legislators may be vocally objecting to the aid cut, but the measure was quite popular among the British public. A YouGov poll taken at the time it was announced showed that 66% of Britons were in favor. Giving away 0.7% of the GNI made Britain among the most generous countries in the world under the metric. Critics have long doubted that the British taxpayers' money was doing as good a job as it should have.

'Still waiting for bloody vaccinations': Australians furious with graphic govt Covid ad telling people to get jabbed

Australians have condemned a government commercial which shows a young woman in hospital desperately trying to breathe as a warning to get vaccinated, with many pointing out that those in her age group cannot yet book a jab.

The graphic ad, which is set to run in Sydney – the largest city in Australia, and the one hit hardest by Covid – shows the woman panting with tears in her eyes as she is hooked up to a respirator in hospital. “Covid-19 can affect anyone. Stay home. Get tested. Book your vaccination,” the ad concludes.

Many Australians were quick to criticize what they deemed to be an inappropriate government ad, given Prime Minister Scott Morrison's failure to secure enough Covid-19 vaccines for the entire population, and recent coronavirus blunders.

“Completely offensive to run an ad like this when Australians in this age group are still waiting for their bloody vaccinations,” protested 10 News First’s National Affairs Editor Hugh Riminton, while Guardian Australia’s Associate News Editor Josephine Tovey called the ad an “insult.”

One social media user described “everything about” the ad as “insensitive and offensive,” while Australian author Anna Spargo-Ryan declared, “How dare the government put the blame for this back on the individual. They've stumbled at every possible systemic hurdle: forced poverty, vaccine scarcity, vaccine hesitancy, hotel quarantine…”

World Economic Forum Announces Creation of Orwellian ‘Global Coalition for Digital Safety’

The World Economic Forum announced June 29 it will initiate a new “public-private partnership” with Big Tech and governments around the world to identify and uproot all opinions from the Internet that it considers “harmful.”

The WEF is one of those elitist organizations that wields enormous influence over the elected leaders of Western nations but which almost nobody in the general population has heard of.

Its members are internationalist corporate honchos and technocrats who meet once a year in Davos with the stated goal of working to “shape global, regional and industry agendas.”

It made a big splash last year with its highly touted “Great Reset,” which promises to use the pandemic as an “opportunity” to crash the world’s dollar-based, capitalist economic system and “build back better” under a more socialist and globally integrated system that mirrors the United Nations Agenda 2030 goals for Sustainable Development.

Any politician you hear using the term “build back better” [Biden-Harris-Trudeau-Johnson repeat this mantra daily] you know has drunk the poisonous Kool-Aid of the World Economic Forum and its founder, Klaus Schwab [pictured below].

Schwab’s latest venture is the so-called “Global Coalition for Digital Safety” that consists of execs from Big Tech and government officials with the goal of creating a “global framework” for regulating speech on the Internet, wiping it of so-called “harmful content.”

This program fits perfectly with the rhetoric coming out of Washington since Biden claimed the presidency.

Biden and his attorney general, Merrick Garland, take every opportunity to talk about “extremists” on the right being the “biggest threat to our democracy.” This is a classic propaganda technique used to turn public sentiment against a targeted demographic. The Nazis perfected this, using the media to blame all of Germany’s problems on Jews before they actually started rounding them up and making them disappear.

Big Tech corporations are also increasingly working in concert with governments around the world, including in the U.S. and the ruling Chinese Communist Party in China, to regulate what people are allowed to see on the Internet.

But all of this control over the free flow of information is not enough for some of the global power elites.

Now they are ready to take their Gestapo tactics to the next level.

They want to turn us against each other.

Meet Jigsaw: Google’s Intelligence Agency

It’s no secret that Google regularly collaborates with intelligence agencies.

They are a known NSA subcontractor. They launched Google Earth using a CIA spy satellite network. Their executive suite’s revolving door with DARPA is well known.

In the wake of the January 6th Capitol event, the FBI used Google location data to pwn attendants with nothing more than a valid Gmail address and smartphone login:

But Google also operates its own internal intelligence agency – complete with foreign regime change operations that are now being applied domestically.

In 2010, Google CEO Eric Schmidt created Google Ideas. In typical Silicon Valley newspeak, Ideas was marketed as a “think/do tank to research issues at the intersection of technology and geopolitics.“

Astute readers know this “think/do” formula well – entities like the Council on Foreign Relations or World Economic Forum draft policy papers (think) and three-letter agencies carry them out (do).

And again, in typical Silicon Valley fashion, Google wanted to streamline this process – bring everything in-house and remake the world in their own image.

To head up Google Ideas, Schmidt tapped a man named Jared Cohen.

He couldn’t have selected a better goon for the job – as a card-carrying member of the Council on Foreign Relations and Rhodes Scholar, Cohen is a textbook Globalist spook. The State Department doubtlessly approved of his sordid credentials, as both Condoleeza Rice and Hillary Clinton enrolled Cohen to knock over foreign governments they disapproved of.

Google Ideas’ role in the 2014 Ukraine regime change operation is well-documented. And before that, their part in overthrowing Mubarak in Egypt was unveiled by way of the Stratfor leaks.

More recently, the role of Google Ideas in the attempted overthrow of Assad in Syria went public thanks to the oft-cited Hillary Clinton email leaks:

Australia completes full withdrawal from Afghanistan, leaving behind trail of war crime allegations

Australia has confirmed the end of its military involvement in Afghanistan, as the US-led coalition accelerates its exit from the war-torn nation. Canberra’s role in the 20-year conflict has been sullied by war crime allegations.

Defense Minister Peter Dutton announced on Sunday that over the past several weeks, Australia had pulled 80 support personnel from Afghanistan, formally ending the country’s military presence there. Canberra said in April that it would follow Washington’s lead by pledging to remove its remaining troops by September.

Dutton noted Australia was ready to join the US in future military operations that are deemed to be “in our national interest or in the interest of our allies.”

“For now, though, that campaign has come to an end,” the defense minister said.

Australia mobilized some 39,000 troops over the past two decades as part of the US-led military intervention in Afghanistan. Forty-one Australian service members were killed during the war, which eventually became a dragged-out stalemate with the Taliban. Canberra withdrew the bulk of its forces from Afghanistan in 2013.

India pulls diplomats from Afghanistan’s second-largest city as Taliban boast rapid territorial gains

India has temporarily withdrawn personnel from its consulate in Kandahar as the Taliban continue to consolidate control over territory around the southern Afghan city.

A special aircraft operated by the Indian Air Force was reportedly dispatched on Saturday to retrieve around 50 diplomats and security forces from Afghanistan’s second-largest city.

India’s foreign ministry said in a statement that Indian nationals working at the consulate had been “brought back for the time being” due to “intense fighting” near Kandahar city. The ministry stressed that the consulate would continue to operate with the assistance of local staff members and that the decision to withdraw its diplomats was “a purely temporary measure until the situation stabilizes.”

On Friday, Taliban forces entered the outskirts of Kandahar city, the capital of the province of the same name, seizing houses and buildings as they battled Afghan troops. The insurgent group has captured districts surrounding the city as part of a large-scale offensive that was launched as the US military began to accelerate its withdrawal from Afghanistan in May.

The Afghan government has deployed special forces units, as well as the country’s air force, in an attempt to push back the Taliban assault.

The militants now claim to control 85% of Afghanistan’s territory, a figure that Kabul has dismissed as propaganda. However, some of the group’s territorial gains are beyond dispute. Earlier this week, Taliban fighters captured two major border crossings with neighboring Iran and Turkmenistan. It’s also believed that the insurgents control approximately two-thirds of Afghanistan’s border with Tajikistan. Moscow has signaled that it is ready to help protect Tajikistan in the event of a Taliban incursion into the country.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden has defended his administration’s decision to withdraw US forces from Afghanistan, promising that the United States would not “walk away” from Kabul as it tries to keep the Taliban at bay.

FBI goes ‘American Stasi’ with tweet encouraging family members to rat each other out for ‘extremism’

The FBI has asked Americans to examine their own family members for signs of “homegrown violent extremism,” and report them. The call for snitches comes as the FBI turns its surveillance powers on regular Americans.

“Family members and peers are often best positioned to witness signs of mobilization to violence,” read a tweet from the FBI on Sunday. To help prevent “homegrown violent extremism,” the agency advises Americans to visit its website, “to learn how to spot suspicious behaviors and report them to the FBI.”

The link provided by the FBI brings visitors to a 2019 document listing “mobilization indicators” that may suggest an individual is preparing to engage in terrorism – for example, “preparing and disseminating a martyrdom video,” “communicating directly with violent extremists online,” and “preparing to travel to fight with or support terrorist groups.”

The indicators and imagery used in the document suggest that its focus was on radical Islamic terrorism, but the FBI, along with the rest of the US security apparatus, has in recent months has turned its surveillance powers on white, conservative America.

Since the pro-Trump riot on Capitol Hill in January, FBI Director Christopher Wray has testified before Congress that the anti-government sentiment responsible for the affray has been “metastasizing” in the US for years, and that “the problem of domestic terrorism … is not going away anytime soon.” Former Assistant Director Frank Figliuzzi was more explicit last month when he called for the arrest of high-level Republicans to “really tackle terrorism, this time domestically.”

Mastriano Releases Details On Pennsylvania’s 2020 Election Audit – Democrats Pledge To Stop it

Pennsylvania State Senator Doug Mastriano submitted a forensic investigation request to evaluate Pennsylvania’s election results and processes for the 2020 General Election.

The forensic investigation requested has been sent to two Republican counties and one Democratic county: Philadelphia, York, and Tioga county. Philadelphia has faced multiple accusations of election fraud such as stuffing ballot boxes and turning poll watchers away.

Philadelphia County voted in favor of Biden: 81.44% (D) compared to 17.90% (R). York County voted in favor of Trump: 61.53% (R) compared to 36.95% (D). Tioga County voted in favor of Trump: 74.70% (R) compared to 23.51% (D)

A news release from Senator Mastriano’s office indicated the reasoning behind the forensic investigation, showing that each of the counties are a different geographical region within the state. “The people of our Commonwealth should have confidence that their vote counts.”

Pennsylvania Department of State Tells Counties Not to Allow Outside Access to Voting Systems

The Pennsylvania agency in charge of elections has issued a new directive telling counties not to let outside parties access electronic voting systems or components of such systems, such as tabulators and ballot printers.

The directive from the Pennsylvania Department of State, released on July 9, says that county boards of elections “shall not” provide any access to third parties that are seeking to examine the systems or system components.

If the counties do allow access, the voting equipment that is examined “will be considered no longer secure or reliable to use in subsequent elections” and the department will withdraw its certification for the equipment.

“Such access by third parties undermines chain of custody requirements and strict access limitations necessary to prevent both intentional and inadvertent tampering with electronic voting systems,” said acting Pennsylvania Secretary of State Veronica Degraffenreid, appointed in February by Democrat Gov. Tom Wolf, in a statement. “It also jeopardizes the security and integrity of the systems and will prevent electronic voting system vendors from affirming that the systems continue to meet Commonwealth security standards and U.S. Election Assistance Commission certification.”

Pennsylvania Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman, a Republican, said in a response that the directive “is an attack on the General Assembly’s power to review, investigate, and legislate in matters within its legislative authority, which includes Pennsylvania’s election system.”

“The Legislature has clear authority—both statutorily and constitutionally—to provide oversight and issue subpoenas. This directive tramples those rights which were specifically put in place to prevent potential abuses and overreach by the Executive Branch,” he added.

State Sen. Doug Mastriano, a Republican, added that the directive was an example of a “disturbing pattern” of obstruction and violation of constitutional powers of the Senate by the Wolf administration that dates back to March 2019.

Wolf and other Pennsylvania Executive Branch officials have condemned the push by some state Republicans for an audit, saying the 2020 election ran smoothly with virtually no problems. Mastriano triggered a probe of recent elections last week, sending letters to Philadelphia, York, and Tioga counties.

Mastriano cited the abnormalities in the election, including how the number of mail-in ballots jumped by over 2 million compared to four years prior and the acceptance of ballots that arrived after Election Day.

CNN Medical Analyst Wen: Life ‘Needs to Be Hard’ for Unvaccinated Americans

CNN medical contributor Dr. Leana Wen said Friday that life needs to be “hard” for Americans who have not received a coronavirus vaccine with “twice weekly testings.”

Wen, the former Planned Parenthood president, said, “So now we have this delta variant that is much more contagious. Because it’s more contagious, it’s going to be even harder for us to reach herd immunity. We’re going to have to vaccinate an even higher proportion of people to get there. What happens, then, if we end up having another variant developing that’s even more contagious, that could cause more disease, that could evade the protection of our immune system?”

She added, “So how quickly we can get this under control and which way we go depends on what we do now to overcome disinformation. What we really need to do at this point is make vaccination the easy choice. It needs to be hard for people to remain unvaccinated. Right now, it’s kind of the opposite. It’s fine. It’s easy if you’re unvaccinated. You can do anything you want to do anyway. At some point, these mandates by workplaces, by schools, I think it will be important to say, hey, if you want to opt-out, you have to sign these forms, get twice weekly testing. Basically, we want to make getting vaccinated the easy choice. That is what it’s going to take for us to actually end the pandemic.”

Texas Governor Says Biden Administration Completely Abandoned Enforcing Immigration Laws

Texas Governor Greg Abbott met on Saturday with a contingent of Texas sheriffs to discuss their concerns about the current border crisis’s impact on counties within the state. According to Abbott, the necessity of such workshops is caused by the current administration’s abandonment of efforts to enforce immigration laws that were passed by the United States Congress.

Governor Abbott heard commentary from several sheriffs from different regions of the state who expressed concern with the increasing levels of arrests made in connection to the current migrant surge along the border. Issues discussed also included the heightened level of danger to the public as a result of high-speed pursuits on Texas highways.

At the conclusion of the event, Abbott expressed his dismay at the current administrations handling of the crisis. “The bottom line is, because of the current administration’s complete abandonment of enforcing the laws passed that were passed by the United States Congress, concerning immigration, there is an unprecedented increase in people coming across the border,” the Texas governor told the group of Sheriffs. He concluded, saying, “Even though the federal government may have abandoned their responsibility, we have not.”

“President Biden’s open border policies have led to a disaster on our border, and the State of Texas is stepping up in the federal government’s absence to keep our communities safe,” the governor told the sheriffs. “Our efforts would not be possible without our partnership with local law enforcement. With their support, we are working tirelessly to stop the influx of unlawful immigrants and prevent the smuggling of contraband into the state.”

“But more help is needed, which is why I called for legislation this Special Session to provide more border security funding for law enforcement and counties,” Abbott continued. “This funding will help us better step up to meet this challenge and gives our border communities the resources and support they need. I strongly urge the legislature to take up this issue, and I thank our law enforcement partners for their continued efforts to secure the border.”

Several sheriffs expressed concern regarding challenges facing their jails reaching maximum detention capacity. Abbott offered a potential solution to this issue through the installation of soft-sided facilities to quickly create more detention space. The increase in arrests is the result of heightened law enforcement presence under Operation Lone Star, launched by the Governor in March.

This operation involved the deployment of 1,000 Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers and Texas Army National Guard troops to the border area.

The operation resulted in an increase in arrests of not only narcotics and human traffickers, but also those facing warrants and parole or probation violations.

Atlanta Falcons terminate linebacker Barkevious Mingo's contract after he is charged with 'making sexual contact with a child' in Texas: Athlete's attorney calls allegations 'completely baseless'

NFL linebacker Barkevious Mingo was let go by the Atlanta Falcons after being arrested in Texas on a charge of indecency with a child-sexual contact.

Mingo, 30, was arrested on Thursday by police in the Dallas suburb of Arlington.

He faces up to 20 years in jail if convicted.

Arlington Police said in a statement that the agency could provide no further information about the investigation, citing 'the nature of the charges and age of the victim.'

'Mingo turned himself in on his own accord in consultation with his attorney,' police said.

Mingo was released after posting a $25,000 bond.

The Falcons - who signed Mingo in March - terminated his one-year contract hours after the news of his arrest broke.

'After being made aware today of allegations involving Barkevious Mingo and gathering information on the matter, the Atlanta Falcons have terminated his contract,' a post on the team's website states.

In a Twitter statement on Saturday evening, Mingo's attorney Lukas Garcia called the allegations against his client 'completely baseless'.

'Barkevious Mingo is innocent,' Garcia declared in a statement obtained by NFL insider Ian Rapoport. 'At this stage, our side has very limited information. What we do know is these allegations are from over two years ago and are completely untrue.'

Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul Refuses to Leave After Biden Fired Him Friday – Believes Biden Has No Right to Fire Him

The Biden Administration fired the commissioner of the Social Security Administration, however, the commissioner believes Biden cannot fire him believing his term expires in 2025.

President Joe Biden fired Andrew Saul, the commissioner of the Social Security Administration on Friday after Saul rebuffed a White House request to resign. Saul is disputing that Biden can fire him, pointing to the fact that his term expires in 2025.

“I consider myself the term-protected Commissioner of Social Security,” Saul told The Washington Post. He said he intends to sign into work on Monday as usual. His deputy was also fired.

Saul was nominated to the position by Donald Trump in 2019 and was confirmed by the Senate by a vote of 77 to 16. His appointment drew some criticism at the time because Saul had served on the board of the Manhattan Institute, a conservative think tank that has argued in favor of cuts to Social Security benefits.

The White House argues it has the power to fire Saul, citing recent Supreme Court cases. Last year in a 5-4 decision, the court made it easier for the president to remove the head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. This June, the court ruled that the president has the power to remove the head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency. Biden replaced the Trump-appointed head of the department that day.

Saul, a Trump-era holdover, was accused of mismanaging the delivery of COVID stimulus payments and union bashing.

He was asked to resign his post but was fired when he refused, according to a White House official.

However, Saul, 74, told the Washington Post that he would report for work on Monday morning by logging on remotely from his New York home.

‘I consider myself the term-protected commissioner of Social Security,’ he said, added that an email asking for his resignation was the first of the administration’s plans for him.

The reasons to remove Saul were weak. Saul has every right to challenge the workings of government unions and what agency did a good job of handing out COVID payments?

We’ll see if Saul is welcomed into the Social Security Office on Monday or not.

“Women’s” GOP Fundraising Group Refuses to Give Money To Marjorie Taylor Greene or Lauren Boebert

A fundraising group for GOP women is withholding campaign donations from Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Lauren Boebert (R-CO), according to a new email.

The fundraising group is called the “Value In Electing Women Political Action Committee.”

Their executive direct, Julie Conway smeared them in an email claiming they are “shameless self-promoters and carnival barkers.”

USA Today reported:

A prominent fundraising group for GOP women is “intentionally” withholding campaign donations to freshmen Republican Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Insider reported Wednesday.

“While we rightfully celebrate the number of GOP women serving in the House, I’ve always professed quality over quantity,” Julie Conway, executive director of the Value In Electing Women Political Action Committee, told Insider in an email. “The work of Congress is not a joke or reality show. Our women have fought too hard for too long to be respected and taken seriously as legislators, policy makers and thought leaders. We cannot let this work be erased by individuals who chose to be shameless self-promoters and carnival barkers.

“I think that they would rather draw attention to themselves, and really Marjorie Taylor Greene more than Boebert, but they’re cut from the same cloth,” Conway added.

Public records did prove that the Value In Electing Women Political Action Committee has not donated any money to Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert.

In a response to USA Today, Boebert blasted the Value In Electing Women Political Action Committee as a “DC insider PAC.”

Both Boebert and Greene have come under attack from the radical left and RINOs for their opposition to the Dems’ far-left agenda.

Both Boebert and Greene contested the results of the 2020 election.

CNN medical analyst Dr. Leana Wen on Saturday said the Biden Administration should make life difficult for unvaccinated Americans.

Leana Wen was born in China and served as the president of Planned Parenthood until July 2019.

Wen complained about current policies and said life is simply too easy for unvaccinated Americans because they can still do what they want.

“Hey, you can opt out, but if you want to opt out, you have to sign these forms, you have to get twice weekly testing,” Wen said.

Recall, Dr. Wen earlier this year said Biden’s reopening policies should have been tied to vaccination status.

“We have a very narrow window to tie reopening policy to vaccination status because if everything is reopened, then what’s the carrot going to be… How are we going to incentivize people to actually get the vaccine… So that’s why I think the CDC and the Biden Admin need to come out a lot bolder and say “if you’re vaccinated, you can do all these things…here are all the freedoms that you have, because otherwise people are going to go out and enjoy these freedoms anyway,” Wen said in April.

Years After His Death, Two More Women Sue Jeffrey Epstein’s Estate, Alleging Sexual Abuse

Two more women are suing Jeffrey Epstein’s estate, two years after the convicted sex offender was found dead in his jail cell.

The New York Post reported that the women, who filed anonymously, say that Epstein sexually abused them when they were underage. Their allegations span decades. More from the Post:

One of the victims, who lives in Tennessee, claims “she was repeatedly sexually abused, assaulted and battered by Epstein” in Long Beach, New York, in 1978 when she was just 13, according to the court papers.

The other victim, a resident of California, alleges that when she was 17 years old in 2000, the multimillionaire hedge funder “sexually assaulted, abused, battered and raped her on at least three, separate occasions” at his Manhattan townhouse, the court documents charge.

Both claim the abuse caused them to suffer emotionally and physically and they still feel the effects of the trauma to this day. They claim this has interfered with their “regular activities” and has forced them to shell out money for medical help, the filings say.

At least 30 other women have also brought claims against Epstein’s estate, the Post previously reported, and more than 150 women have claimed the deceased pedophile sexually abused them. Many of the claims have already been settled through a victims’ compensation program funded by Epstein’s estate. The fund reportedly has more than $140 million.

The two newest women to bring claims against Epstein’s estate said that “Epstein and his co-conspirators” intimidated and threatened them as well as their families from speaking out prior to his death in August 2019.

“By using threats in accompaniment with his wealth and power, Epstein was able to escape punishment for his abhorrent brutal and perverse crimes against countless young women,” the lawsuits from the two women claim.

The attorney representing both women, Jordan Merson, told the Post: “These brave women have come forward and filed lawsuits against the estate’s executors to be adequately compensated for their injuries after they were sexually abused as children by Epstein.”

San Jose Educator Caught in Teen Sex Sting

A 53-year-old San Jose resident and director of education at a non-profit science museum and zoo in San Mateo was caught in a vigilante child sex sting late Tuesday night.

Carl Oosterman, who has worked at CuriOdyssey since 2004, was confronted around 10pm July 6 after arranging to meet up with someone he thought was a 14-year-old boy from Los Angeles visiting the South Bay for the holiday weekend, according to a video posted to the YouTube video channel..

Screenshots of messages provided to San Jose Inside indicate that Oosterman asked the boy about his past sexual history, if he was looking for older guys and what he would be comfortable doing that night, from cuddling to sex. He said he “didn’t mind” the minor’s age.

The 53-year-old’s last message said, “This feels kinda wrong.”

A video of the confrontation, during which Oosterman admits his intentions for the evening, was posted to the video sharing site by CC Unit. The California group—short for “Creep Catch”—has the stated objective of protecting children from online predators by posing as minors and videotaping adults who show up expecting an illegal sexual liaison. As of Friday evening, the 10-minute clip gathered more than 25,000 views.

According to Ghost, the anonymous San Diego resident who started CC Unit in 2018, Oosterman first contacted a “decoy” account on Grindr, a popular dating app primarily for gay men, before the two planned to meet up at a nearby Target and head to Oosterman’s South San Jose home.

“I just don’t want someone like him to work with kids ever again,” Ghost told San Jose Inside, adding that the stings have previously led to arrests. “He’s a danger to society.”

Attempts to reach Oosterman for comment were unsuccessful, and checks of inmate databases at Santa Clara County and San Mateo County jails didn’t turn up a record of his name.

CuriOdyssey’s educational staff bio page was edited Friday—no longer listing Oosterman as Director of Education. According to earlier versions of the site, Oosterman “manages our year-round youth leadership development program” and also worked as “community programs supervisor at Mid-Peninsula Regional Open Space District and senior program director for youth, tee, and family programs at Bay Area YMCAs.”

Biden under pressure to pick new breed of federal prosecutors

President Biden is under pressure to expand his criminal justice reform efforts to include the dozens of U.S. attorney offices across the country that prosecute federal crimes.

Advocates have applauded Biden's criminal justice agenda, such as his plans to increase the number of former public defenders on the federal bench, but stress that the same priorities should be applied when selecting prosecutors to oversee the country's 93 districts.

Rachel Barkow, a professor at the New York University School of Law, says that because of the power that prosecutors wield, Biden’s appointments could make or break his reform agenda.

“It wouldn't be enough to just focus on the courts as the place where you're committed to diversifying and getting a reform minded perspective in there,” Barkow said. “You absolutely have to have the same attitude when it comes to the U.S. attorneys’ posts.”

“You can't have a reform agenda, like the one that you committed to on the campaign trail, if you don't have people in those offices who are going to carry that out,” she added.

With more and more cities electing progressive district attorneys who campaigned on reducing mass incarceration, reformers are pushing Biden to follow suit and pick a new breed of federal prosecutors.

In March, a coalition of advocacy groups sent a letter to Biden calling on him to nominate federal prosecutors “capable of delivering fair sentencing, rearranging prosecutorial priorities and rooting out misconduct.”

Administrations of both parties have historically tapped career prosecutors and attorneys from prestigious law firms to fill U.S. attorney positions around the country, a trend that critics argue has cemented a tough-on-crime culture that is increasingly at odds with the nation’s evolving views on criminal justice.

In recent years, voters in major cities such as New York, Philadelphia, Boston and San Francisco have been electing progressive candidates to serve as local district attorneys.

The reformers have campaigned on using prosecutors’ broad authority and discretion to shift priorities away from low-level offenses, reduce sentencing recommendations and other policies aimed at decreasing the country’s massive prison population.

Criminal justice reform activists say that Biden should follow the example set by the progressive prosecutor movement at the local level and draw upon public defenders and other attorneys who see a need for change.

“It should be a strong indication for the administration that the public has acknowledged that we're at a point where we need to erase 40 years of prison buildup and extreme sentencing and prosecuting people for really low level offenses and sending them to prison,” said Kara Gotsch, deputy director of the Sentencing Project, a group that advocates for eliminating mass incarceration.

Bennett taps former senior Mossad official as his new national security adviser

Eyal Hulata, 45, spent 23 years in spy agency; PM praises his ‘experience, performance, and understanding of Israel’s strategic challenges’

Prime Minister Bennett announced Sunday the appointment of Eyal Hulata as the head of Israel’s National Security Council.

Hulata, 45, served in Israel’s Mossad spy agency for some 23 years, including in senior positions.

During his service, he headed the spy agency’s department for strategic planning and its technology unit.

Also during his time in the Mossad, Hulata was awarded the Israel Defense Prize for unspecified actions.

“In light of his years-long experience, performance, and understanding of Israel’s strategic challenges in the security and diplomatic spheres, Prime Minister Bennett chose to appoint him,” a statement from the prime minister said.

Hulata lives in the central city of Kfar Saba, with his wife and three children. He holds a PhD in physics from Tel Aviv University, a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University, and is a graduate of the IDF’s Talpiot program at the Hebrew University.

Hulata will succeed Meir Ben-Shabbat, who announced earlier this month that he would be stepping down from the role.

After the new government was sworn in last month, Bennett asked Ben-Shabbat to stay on until he selected a replacement.

The new appointment is pending government approval. Ben-Shabbat will meet with Hulata for an “orderly transition process,” the statement added.

Bennett was in the past highly critical of the NSC’s performance during the 2014 Gaza war, saying it did not fulfill its role of providing varied options for the cabinet to consider.
