Linn County Sheriff's Office: Detained person at jail dead in apparent suicide

 

An incarcerated person being held at the Linn County Jail died early Sunday morning by suicide, according to a news release from the Linn County Sheriff's Office.

 

Travis Jon Fulton, 44, of Parkersburg, was found unresponsive at 3:58 a.m. by a correctional officer performing a cell check, according to the news release. CPR was performed on Fulton after he was found, according to the release. He was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, but was declared dead at 5 a.m.

 

In February, Fulton was charged in federal court with sexual exploitation of a child, possession of child pornography and receipt of child pornography. He has been housed at the Linn County Jail since his arrest, according to the news release.

 

An indictment alleged that in November Fulton tried to persuade a minor to produce child pornography. The indictment also alleged that Fulton possessed child pornography between November 2018 and November 2020.

 

Fulton was charged in March with possessing child pornography as far back as June 2013
