A Texas state representative is accusing a Las Vegas-based Honorary Consul of Lebanon of providing private air travel for Texas Democrat lawmakers who fled the Lone Star State to block an imminent vote on Republican-crafted Election Integrity legislation.

“A coalition of members of the Texas state House boarded private planes purportedly owned by Philippe Khalil Ziade, a Lebanese-American entrepreneur and honorary consul of Lebanon in Nevada, according to Texas State Representative Briscoe Cain (R-Deer Park),” reports Kenny Webster of KPRC Radio. “Ziade is the founder and chairman of Las Vegas based Growth Holdings and is highly engaged in Lebanese politics and other ex-pat affairs, according to the Republican lawmaker. Cain provided KPRC Radio with flight logs from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to confirm the claim. The flight logs list an airplane tail number associated with Ziade, a code unique to a single aircraft, according to Cain.” Ziade is the Honorary Consul of Lebanon in Nevada, and as such he represents a foreign nation state. If his participation in the Democrat exodus is confirmed, Republicans can use this information to help bring to justice the fugitive Democrat lawmakers. Texas Democrat lawmakers are loading up on alcohol and fleeing the state of Texas to stop a vote on the Republican election integrity bills that are expected to pass both houses of the legislature. The lawmakers loaded up on alcohol before fleeing the state for Washington, D.C. like the cowards they are. They plan to deny Republicans a quorum, meaning the legislature will not have enough voters to convene a vote. The special session lasts 30 days, but the Democrats plan to stay in D.C. for an extended period of time.

Here is a case of beer spotted on their bus as they traveled to their plane, as tweeted by Republican House Speaker Dade Phelan’s communications director Enrique Marquez. Phelan said that he will “use every available resource under the Texas Constitution and the unanimously-passed House Rules to secure a quorum.” The Democrats can be arrested for this conduct for violating the Texas Constitution by abdicating their duty to have a 2/3 presence in the state legislature. Republicans are probably going to get the Texas Department of Public Safety to locate the fugitives and force them to return, possibly by having them arrested.

“This Is a Scandal”: Documents Reveal Obama’s EPA Approved Toxic Chemicals for Fracking in 2011

Between 2012 and 2020, fossil fuel corporations injected potentially carcinogenic per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), or chemicals that can degrade into PFAS, into the ground while fracking for oil and gas, after former President Barack Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency approved their use despite agency scientists’ concerns about toxicity.

The EPA’s approval in 2011 of three new compounds for use in oil and gas drilling or fracking that can eventually break down into PFAS, also called “forever chemicals,” was not publicized until Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR) obtained internal records from the agency through a Freedom of Information Act request, the New York Times reported Monday after reviewing the files.

According to PSR’s new report, Fracking with “Forever Chemicals,“ oil and gas companies including ExxonMobil, Chevron, and others engaged in hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, have since 2012 pumped toxic chemicals that can form PFAS into more than 1,200 wells in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Texas, and Wyoming.

While the Times noted that the newly released documents constitute some of the earliest evidence of the possible presence of PFAS in fracking fluids, PSR’s report warns that “the lack of full disclosure of chemicals used in oil and gas operations raises the potential that PFAS could have been used even more extensively than records indicate, both geographically and in other stages of the oil and gas extraction process, such as drilling, that precede the underground injections known as fracking.”

“It’s very disturbing to see the extent to which critical information about these chemicals is shielded from public view,” Barbara Gottlieb, PSR’s Environment & Health Program director, said Monday in a press release. “The lack of transparency about fracking chemicals puts human health at risk.”

In a consent order issued for the three chemicals on Oct. 26, 2011, EPA scientists pointed to preliminary evidence that, under some conditions, the chemicals could “degrade in the environment” into substances akin to PFOA, a kind of PFAS chemical, and could “persist in the environment” and “be toxic to people, wild mammals, and birds.” The EPA scientists recommended additional testing. Those tests were not mandatory and there is no indication that they were carried out.

“The EPA identified serious health risks associated with chemicals proposed for use in oil and gas extraction, and yet allowed those chemicals to be used commercially with very lax regulation,” Dusty Horwitt, a researcher at PSR, told the newspaper.

In a statement released Monday, Wenonah Hauter, executive director of Food & Water Watch, called the PSR report “alarming,” and said it “confirms what hundreds of scientific studies and thousands of pages of data have already shown over the last decade: fracking is inherently hazardous to the health and safety of people and communities in proximity to it, and it should be banned entirely.”

As PSR notes, PFAS—highly potent toxins that accumulate in the body and persist in the environment—pose a threat to human and environmental well-being. Negative health effects linked to PFAS include low infant birth weights, disruptions of the immune and reproductive systems, and cancer.

South Africa deploys military to two provinces amid looting and violence after ex-president Zuma’s jailing

The South African military has deployed forces in two provinces following violence and looting that has seen a mall set ablaze, several killed and over 200 arrests after the imprisonment of ex-leader Jacob Zuma.

Violence and looting broke out for a fourth day on Monday following the high court’s decision to jail former president and anti-apartheid veteran Zuma over contempt of court.

Military personnel were sent out to Gauteng, where major cities Pretoria and Johannesburg are situated, and KwaZulu-Natal, the former president's home province, where he has many supporters.

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) issued a statement on Monday stating it sent troops to “provide safety and a safe working environment for members of the SAPS [South African Police Service]”.

At Least 54 Dead After COVID Hospital in Iraq Catches Fire

The cause of the fire at the Al-Hussein Hospital in Iraq’s Nasiriyah district, where coronavirus patients are being treated, is not yet determined. Reports suggest, however, that the fire was caused by an oxygen cylinder explosion.

At least 54 people were killed in a fire that erupted in the Al-Hussein coronavirus hospital in Iraq's Nasiriyah district on Monday, according to Dhi Qar Health Department.

Iraqi state news agency INA earlier reported that at least 41 people were killed and "dozens" were injured in the fire. Al Arabiya, citing Iraqi media reports, said that the number of victims is "likely to rise".

Health officials of the Dhi Qar Governorate declared a state of emergency after the incident. According to reports, the fire could have been caused by an oxygen cylinder explosion, but the official cause is still to be determined.

According to government officials, cited by INA, the fire is "under control", as the remaining patients were evacuated from the hospital.

Videos showing the hospital engulfed in flames emerged online.

This is not the first time a COVID hospital has caught fire in Iraq, as, earlier in April, a fire at a Baghdad COVID-19 hospital killed 82 and injured 110. The cause of the explosion and subsequent fire was ruled to be incorrectly-stored oxygen cylinders.

Peter Schweizer: Our Copy of Hunter Biden’s Laptop Confirms ‘Joe Biden Was a Direct Beneficiary’ of His Son’s Deals

Peter Schweizer, president of the Government Accountability Institute (GAI), said on Monday that his organization had confirmed that President Joe Biden “was a direct beneficiary” of Hunter Biden’s financial deals with foreign interests.

“We do have a copy, by the way, here at GAI of [Hunter Biden’s] laptop and all the files,” Schweizer said on the Sean Hannity Show. “It confirms that Joe Biden was a direct beneficiary.”

Schweizer explained how GAI cross-referenced Secret Service travel logs during Joe Biden’s tenure as vice president to corroborate the authenticity of Hunter Biden’s emails.

He remarked:

GAI asked, “How can we demonstrate whether the emails are real?” … We already have, for example, Hunter Biden’s Secret Service travel records. They were released by Senator [Ron] Johnson’s committee. These are the official records that say the Secret Service traveled with Hunter to this location, to that location, etcetera.

So we asked, “Do the emails on Hunter Biden’s laptop correspond with the travel records? If our email references that [Hunter] is in Dubai on a certain date, does that line up with the Secret Service travel records? Absolutely, 100 percent.

So there is no question. Of course Hunter Biden hasn’t denied it. But there’s no question that the laptop emails that we have possession of are 100 percent accurate and correspond directly with existing material, and the information is devastating.

GAI is in the process of investigating its copy of files found on Hunter Biden’s laptop, Schweizer shared. He said GAI’s forthcoming reports on the laptop’s contents will expose disastrous dimensions of the Biden family.

“We’re in the middle of the investigation now, but by the end of the year it will be completed, and it will take on a far more sinister tone than it has even now in terms of what it says about the Biden family and the vulnerabilities of the Biden family,” Schweizer stated. “It’s that bad.”

Hannity asked, “On a scale of one to ten, how bad are the coming revelations from this laptop?”

He added, “The coming revelations [from our investigation] based on what we are in the middle of right now, on a scale of one to ten — and you know Sean, I’m pretty cautious about this stuff — frankly are an eleven. It’s that bad.”

Hunter Biden claimed to not know whether the laptop in question was his. Asked in April of the laptop’s authenticity, he replied, “For real, I don’t know.”

‘Several’ suspects in Haiti’s president assassination were informants for US drug agency, FBI – reports

The US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) confirmed that at least one of the men arrested for the killing of Haitian President Jovenel Moise was their informant, according to CNN, while several others may have had ties to the FBI.

Moise was gunned down at dawn last Wednesday, by attackers who reportedly claimed to be DEA agents raiding his home. Responding to an inquiry by CNN on Monday, the agency officially denied that the attackers were acting on its behalf, but confirmed that “at times, one of the suspects” detained by the Haitian authorities “was a confidential source to the DEA.”

Moreover, following the assassination “the suspect reached out to his contacts at the DEA,” which urged him to surrender to the local authorities. The DEA and the US State Department “provided information to the Haitian government that assisted in the surrender and arrest of the suspect and one other individual,” the agency said.

In a statement to Reuters, an unnamed law enforcement official sought to clarify that the suspect was not an active DEA informant at the time of the assisination.

The assassination involved at least 28 men, Haitian authorities said. Most of the suspects in their custody are Colombian nationals, mercenaries hired through a US security company based in Florida.

At least three of those detained are US citizens, however. One of them is Christian Emmanuel Sanon, 63. He was arrested on Monday and is suspected of organizing the assassination, Police Chief Leon Charles said at a press conference.

CNN also reported that several of the suspects “had US ties, including working as informants for the FBI,” but cited anonymous sources briefed on the matter. Unlike the DEA, the FBI did not confirm or deny these reports, saying only that it uses “lawful sources to collect intelligence” as part of its investigations.

The DEA has a considerable presence in Colombia, where the US and the government in Bogota have been engaged in a decades-long war on cocaine cartels. The agency also has a presence in Haiti, but the website of the US embassy in Port-au-Prince offers no details about its activities. The link to the “DEA Caribbean regional activities” website delivers a “requested page could not be found” error message.

In the aftermath of Moise’s assassination, Haiti has requested US help to stabilize the country. One government minister even reportedly sought the deployment of US troops, saying that “terrorists” might exploit the chaos to target airports and gas reserves. When asked about it, the White House has only said the matter was “under review” and the troops have not been ruled out.

I’ve checked other years too. The demographics are about the same. Can I say it? It’s mainly Chinese kids. I mean, that’s just a fact. Why?

I have some theories, none of which are racist. A lot of these kids come from immigrant families, who take a very keen interest in their kids’ education, who came to Canada for opportunity and they’re not going to let their kids just slough off. No genders studies or vegetarian studies for them, no just playing video games and smoking pot. Study, study study.

So I think that’s part of it. I think another one, that’s related, is if you immigrate to Canada, maybe English isn’t your first language, so perhaps math is something that you can excel at, no matter what your native tongue is.

And a related answer is: math is not subjective. You either know the answer to a math question or you don’t; there’s no wiggle room, there’s no favouritism. It’s a meritocracy. Other things in life aren’t — they’re who you know, not what you know.

Does anyone believe Justin Trudeau would be prime minister now if he didn’t have the luck of being Pierre Trudeau’s son? Math doesn’t work that way — you know it or you don’t.

So those are three theories as to why Canada’s math teams are overwhelmingly Asian. Frankly, I’ll tell you that out of ethnic pride I had hoped to see a Jew on there, but I guess it wasn’t to be.

This does cause some policy issues in places that care about race-based outcomes — like universities.

So whether this is nurture or nature, it’s happening — Asian kids are great at math and science. So if you’re a school that insists on racial proportions in the name of affirmative action or whatever you’re calling it now, you’re going to have to discriminate against Asians. It happens like crazy in elite schools — California is the worst. They explicitly penalize Asian kids. You know, they used to do that to Jews, about 70 years ago — they limited the number of Jewish kids who were admitted to McGill’s med schools and law schools, you know. Now they’re doing it to Asians.

My point is: math isn’t just not racist. Math is anti-racist. Math is where you go for a refuge from racism. Because math doesn’t care if you’re black or white or Asian or Jewish or gentile or whatever. It’s a meritocracy.

So imagine saying that math is racist. Well, if that idea is new to you, you haven’t been paying attention. Focusing on the correct answer in maths ‘is racist’.

That’s the theory. It’s not just some crackpot pundit. It’s part of a massive program, bankrolled in part by Bill Gates, by the way, to racialize math instruction. Here’s how the Times-Union describes it:

Objectivity is particularly toxic, and practices that perpetuate and reinforce objectivity must be dismantled. Focusing on the right answer can lead to underdeveloped reasoning skills and a failure to grasp the complexities of math. Consistent with this, perfectionism is to be dismantled as it also places too much value on getting it right. The notion that new learning comes from the teacher is a paternalistic, power-hoarding method to perpetuate white supremacy.

The hotel building collapsed Monday afternoon, the Suzhou government said.

Most people in the building at the time were hotel guests.

Rescuers used cranes, ladders, metal cutters and search dogs to look for survivors. Twenty-three people were trapped. Six have been rescued.

More than 600 people including earthquake rescue teams and 120 vehicles have been mobilized for the operation. Suzhou city is in Jiangsu province near Shanghai.

Gov. Jim Justice is urging a West Virginia lawmaker to resign after he made sexually explicit comments in a TikTok video.

Del. Joe Jeffries, R-Putnam, posted a video on TikTok late last week in which he graphically discussed oral sex. In the video, he framed it as advice to women on receiving oral sex from men. He was quickly stripped from his committee assignment, rebuked by the state and local Republican Party and urged to resign by the governor.

Jeffries’s office did not respond to a request for comment from The Center Square and he has not issued a public comment or an apology since the scandal erupted. The delegate’s TikTok account has since been set to private, but it reportedly included other videos that were sexual in nature.

“His not-so-secret TikTok is full of disgustingly vulgar videos, which are especially insulting to women,” Justice said in a statement. “This is the behavior of an immature child, not a 39-year-old father and elected official. He owes our entire state an apology for not living up to what we all deserve and expect from our elected officials. I assumed that by this morning we would have received that apology, but all he has done is hide from the media and the criticism. So today I am calling on Joe to immediately resign from the House of Delegates. The people of West Virginia, and certainly those in Joe’s district, deserve much better.”

Justice went on to say he agreed with a condemnation from House Speaker Roger Hanshaw, R-Clay, who said Jeffries is an embarrassment to the House and the entire state. Hanshaw stripped Jeffries of his vice chairman position on the Fire Departments and Emergency Medical Services Committee, but stopped short of calling him to resign and indicated he would not seek to remove him from the legislative body.

“It is up to each of our constituents to be the ultimate judges of our actions,” Hanshaw said in a statement. “I believe Joe Jeffries is an embarrassment not just to the House of Delegates, but to the entire state. He has shown us more than once that he does not respect the office he was elected to serve. I am but one member among 100, and his constituents will have the opportunity at the ballot box in 2022 to decide whether he represents them as they wish.”

The Republican Party of West Virginia similarly condemned Jeffries and urged him to apologize, but did not go as far as Justice in requesting he resign.
