That part is legit. As an example, immunity against SARS-Cov-1 is enough to give you immunity against SARS-Cov-2, even though the two are only 80% similar. The Covid-19 variants are more than 99% similar.
So inasfar as the generic vaccine they have developed 'works' (how can we tell), it ought to 'work' just as well for the variants as it does for Covid-19. That is the Michael Yeadon explanation, and he's pretty fucking savvy being a former Pfizer scientist.
