Current comp'd hardware, all those yo point out anon, take an OS to run. One cannot run say OS2 Warp or Win 3.11 on current Comp'd hardware.
Also take Linux, you have greater control over the OS and hardware.. you could edit the kernel source code prebuild to say lock in the IRQ or Port if you know what you are doing, thus limiting what anyone else would attempt to and try to alter with your hardware if you are hacked, or remove a backdoor you discovered if you looked though the millions of lines of code in the kernel files.
