That is sort of the Sunk Money Fallacy, but it has taken an insidious turn for the worst.
The DS has been successful at programming people to believe that the unvaxxed are subhuman monsters responsible for the variants. Now they will have their conscience assuaged when we are out into camps or worse.
To them it's like shooting rabid dogs to prevent the spread.
