Proud Boys leader pleads guilty to vandalism of historically Black church in DC

A leader of the far-right group the Proud Boys has pleaded guilty to vandalizing a historically black church in Washington, D.C., in December, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).

In a Monday statement, authorities said Henry "Enrique" Tarrio has pleaded guilty to one count of destruction of property and one count of attempted possession of a large-capacity ammunition feeding device.

According to the DOJ, Tarrio and other Proud Boys members on Dec. 12 stole a Black Lives Matter banner from the Asbury United Methodist Church before burning it.

Tarrio shared posts of himself and others burning the banner on his Parler account as well as admitting to the crime on social media comments and to multiple media outlets, the DOJ said.

Tarrio, a 36-year-old Miami native, was arrested when he returned to Washington on Jan. 4. Authorities found two high-capacity firearm magazines, each with the Proud Boys insignia, in his possession at the time.

He faces a potential maximum sentence of 180 days imprisonment and/or a $1,000 fine for each offense. His sentencing is set for Aug. 23.

Tarrio has reportedly been a law enforcement informant since 2012, including aiding authorities in an investigation of a local gambling ring that resulted in the arrest and prosecution of 13 people.

The Proud Boys, which is considered a terrorist organization in Canada, was involved in the Jan. 6 siege on the Capitol, which came two days after Tarrio's arrest. Multiple members of the group have been charged over the riot.

Bell's palsy IS linked to the COVID-19 vaccine: Man, 61, developed rare facial paralysis that occurs in just 0.02% of patients after both shots of Pfizer

Researchers documented the case of a 61-year-old white man in the UK who received the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine

After his first dose in January, he developed Bell's palsy, a nerve condition causing a patient to experience muscle weakness in half of their face

He was given a treatment course of steroids and recovered, but developed the condition again after his second dose

This time, it was a severe case with side effects including dribbling, difficulty swallowing and being unable to fully close his left eye

The man has since recovered and the researchers say the vaccine and Bell's palsy are linked, but it is a rare side effect

A recent study suggested it occurs in just 0.02% of vaccinated patients

COVID-19 vaccines are linked to the risk of developing Bell's palsy, a new report from the UK's National Health Service (NHS) suggests.

Researchers detailed the case of a 61-year-old man in England who receive both doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

After each dose, he developed facial paralysis shortly thereafter, with the second time being more severe, including an inability to fully close his left eye.

The NHS team says this is believed to be the first documented case of two separate instances of facial paralysis occurring after each dose of a coronavirus vaccine - but say it is a very rare occurrence.

Bell's palsy is a condition that unexpectedly strikes a patient's face.

The patient experiences sudden muscle weakness or paralysis that causes half of their face to appear to droop, leading to one-sided smiles and one eye that refuses to close.

It is usually a temporary condition with symptoms typically improving within a few weeks, with complete recovery in six months.

A small number of patients will have some symptoms for a longer time, or will see a resurgence of the condition later in life.

While exact causes for the condition are unknown, scientists hypothesize that it's caused by an overreaction of the body's immune system, which leads to inflammation, or swelling, that damages a nerve controlling facial movement.

A recent study linked the incidence of Bell's palsy cases at a 0.02 percent risk for vaccinated people.

In Phase III clinical trials, three cases of Bell's palsy were documented in four volunteers who received the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine and three who received the Moderna vaccine.

Vice President’s Team Caught Spreading Misinformation Surrounding Kamala Harris Coronavirus Test

White House spokesperson for Vice President Kamala Harris, Symone Sanders, was caught spreading misinformation on Monday regarding the vice president’s coronavirus test.

During the White House press briefing on Monday afternoon, press secretary Jen Psaki said that Harris had been tested for the coronavirus and that there was no detection of the coronavirus, attributing the information to the vice president’s office.

“I think the Vice President’s Office put out that she was tested, and that she did — there was no detection of COVID-19,” she said.

But that was not what the vice president’s office had said in a statement Sanders released on Saturday night.

In that statement, Sanders wrote that Harris and her staff “do not need to be tested” after meeting with Texas state lawmakers on Tuesday — even though some of them tested positive for the virus.

Sanders’ full statement read:

On Tuesday, July 13th, Vice President Harris met with members of the Texas state legislature who are temporarily in Washington, D.C. Earlier today, it was brought to our attention that two of the members at that meeting tested positive for COVID-19. Based on the timeline of these positive tests, it was determined the Vice President and her staff present at the meeting were not at risk of exposure because they were not in close contact with those who tested positive and therefore do not need to be tested or quarantined. The Vice President and her staff are fully vaccinated.

When Politico’s West Wing Playbook questioned the vice president’s office about the potential conflict, Sanders responded that both of the statements were true.

Sanders told Politico on Monday that “the vice president is tested regularly as is her staff and that as a part of that regular testing, she was tested this weekend and Covid-19 was not detected.”

“That is not in conflict with the statement we put out Saturday,” Sanders added.

That statement demonstrates that Sanders deliberately misled the press on Saturday about whether Harris would or had taken a coronavirus test or that there were concerns about her contracting the virus after meeting with the Texas Democrats.

The vice president’s office has still refused to answer questions about Harris’s health or whether she met with the president on Monday. The White House failed to release any information about Harris’s activities on Monday and she did not appear publicly since she was last seen with President Biden on Friday.

Emhoff has only been a model for a few months and she’s already been included in several high-profile gigs, including Balenciaga and New York Fashion Week. She added a modeling deal with IMG Models to her resumé and debuted her own line of knitwear earlier this year.

The flood of accolades and sudden success seems to be quietly raising eyebrows in the world of fashion, though. For instance, The Cut felt the need to explain why Emhoff was part of the Paris show, saying, “Her presence on the Balenciaga couture runway may have seemed like a big leap for someone so early in her career, but it actually made sense in context of couture.” It is because Balenciaga is a “gender-fluid” designer, they explained.

Sudden success has been the hallmark of Emhoff’s nascent modeling career. She became the “it” girl for some designers only after her stepmother, Kamala Harris, became vice president.

The plain-looking, rail-thin Emhoff was celebrated by the corporate media as a fashionista about a week after the Biden administration took office. Eight days after Kamala Harris was sworn in as vice president, Emhoff announced her modeling deal with IMG Models on January 28 of this year.

UK grocery giant Ocado was forced to delay or cancel thousands of orders this weekend after a fire broke at one of its London warehouses, the BBC first reported.

The company said in a statement Monday that three of its robots collided.

Thousands of robots zoom along a grid at its automated warehouses, collecting groceries and taking them to picking stations where employees pack orders. According to the BBC, this warehouse handles up to 150,000 orders a week.

As Insider's Charlie Floyd previously reported, the grid uses an air traffic control system intended to prevent any crashes.

Ocado said the damage from the fire was limited to 1% of the grid, and that no employees were injured, but that 800 staff were evacuated.

The warehouse was closed for several days, impacting thousands of orders. The fire started Friday, June 16, and deliveries recommenced Monday morning at 5 a.m., Ocado said.
