The little brother scares him hiding up a tree, this causes the boy to trip, and when he picks himself up he finds everything to be different, he learns that 8 years has somehow passed since falling in the forest and his family had viewed him as dead all that time.

The striped shirt boy is quickly picked up from his newly found parents by NASA and the scientists ask him questions. They learn about “star charts” inside his head that they had no record of.

So what is this about? Reconcile space comms and the timeline of the film.

When it begins he’s in 1978 Jimmy Carter years – and the mentally challenged dog “Bruiser” is a comm, hence all the brother abuse. They were planning on turning into a guerilla but failed (hence the failed competition) and then as 8 years passes he still “didn’t grow up” but instead perpetually had mind of a child. the important bit tho is after 8 years Reagan is President and trying to expose the MK system, the entire movie is a comm about how to deal with it.
