SINGAPORE (Reuters) -Vaccinated individuals accounted for three-quarters of Singapore’s COVID-19 infections in the last four weeks, but they were not falling seriously ill, government data showed, as a rapid ramp-up in inoculations leaves fewer people unvaccinated.

While the data shows that vaccines are highly effective in preventing severe cases, it also underscores the risk that even those inoculated could be contagious, so that inoculation alone may not suffice to halt transmission.

Of Singapore’s 1,096 locally transmitted infections in the last 28 days, 484, or about 44%, were in fully vaccinated people, while 30% were partially vaccinated and just over 25% were unvaccinated, Thursday’s data showed.

Singapore has already inoculated nearly 75% of its 5.7 million people

Democrats threaten Kavanaugh ahead of Roe v Wade

https://www.nationalreview.com/news/democrats-blast-fbi-kavanaugh-investigation-after-new-details-revealed-injustice/

Democrats have renewed their criticism of the FBI’s handling of the 2017 investigation into Justice Brett Kavanaugh, after an FBI assistant director revealed that the most “relevant” tips in the investigation were forwarded to White House lawyers in the Trump administration.

The assistant director, Jill Tyson, informed Senators Sheldon White House (D., R.I.) and Chris Coons (D., Del.) in a June letter that the FBI received over 4,500 tips in its probe of Kavanaugh. The FBI then “provided all relevant tips to the Office of White House Counsel,” Tyson wrote. Ten individuals who provided tips were ultimately interviewed.

Mississippi’s Attorney General Lynn Fitch called on the Supreme Court Thursday to defend the right of states to pass laws protecting “life and women’s health,” urging the court to overturn the landmark abortion case Roe v. Wade.

The attorney general filed a brief in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which the court will hear beginning in October, slamming Roe as “egregiously wrong” and calling on the Supreme Court to uphold Mississippi’s ban on abortions after 15 weeks.

At issue is the question of whether all pre-viability bans on abortions are unconstitutional

HARRISBURG — A Democratic state representative from just outside Philadelphia issued a statement Thursday saying she’s resigning after being charged with theft and other offenses over her expense reimbursements.

Delaware County state Rep. Margo Davidson, 58, was released on her own recognizance after appearing in a Harrisburg district court courtroom.

“Today, I sadly announce my resignation and take legal responsibility for improper record keeping and reimbursement of expenses,” she said in a written statement. Davidson said she is paying $6,900 in restitution.

“I further take responsibility for and regret not fully participating with the investigation,” said the statement released through her attorney, Geoffrey Johnson.

The attorney general’s office accused Davidson of filing fraudulent expense claims with the House of Representatives and hindering a state prosecution by asking an unnamed witness to lie to investigators about trips to Virginia.

At an event called “Brothers Day of Action on Capitol Hill,” Johnson linked arms with nine other activists — among them Black Voters Matter’s Cliff Albright, whose group organized the protest; the Rev. Mark Thompson, Color of Change president Rashad Robinson and former NAACP president Cornell William Brooks — and chanted, “Hey, hey! Ho, ho! The filibuster has got to go!”

They blocked the entrance to the Hart Senate Office Building and were subsequently arrested by Capitol Police for “unlawfully demonstrating,” charged with “crowding, obstructing or incommoding.”

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/san-francisco-trash-cans-20000-price-tags/

San Francisco's Department of Public Works wants to replace 3,000 existing green trash cans with bigger and better-looking ones. The prototype being considered would cost taxpayers about $20,000 per can as of now.

"It's insane. Insane," said one San Francisco resident.

Sleeker bins with sensors alerting crews when they're almost full would be more tamper-resistant, block rodents out and keep sidewalks cleaner, officials said.

"I want us to be, frankly, the model for other cities. Portland, New York, Sydney, wherever it is across the world, to take our cans or to try to model their cans after ours," said Department of Public Works acting Director Alaric Degrafinried.

An existing green trash can recently purchased by the Department of Public Works costs a little over $1,200.

Does "Beto" have insurance

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2021/07/23/texas-democrats-frustrated-president-joe-biden-has-not-agreed-meeting-voting-rights-bills/8067597002/

'I’m just pissed off at this point.' Texas Democrats upset Biden hasn't met with them on voting rights

WASHINGTON — The quorum-busting Democrats in Washington have gained meetings with several high-profile party leaders in their quest for federal action on voting rights, including House Majority Whip James Clyburn, Vice President Kamala Harris and several Democratic senators.

But they still await the biggest get of all: President Joe Biden. And on Thursday, they expressed frustration over the White House's apparent disinterest in scheduling a meeting with members of the Texas group.

During a Zoom conversation with U.S. Rep Lloyd Doggett of Austin, state Rep. Richard Peña Raymond of Laredo vented about the holdup.

“He won’t meet with us on Zoom like this, and I’m trying to be tactful, but I don’t know how else to say it, man. I’m just pissed off at this point. He doesn’t give us the respect the way you have,” Raymond told Doggett.

And in a subsequent Zoom meeting with Beto O'Rourke, in which the former Democratic congressman and presidential candidate announced a $600,000 donation to help pay for the Washington sojourn, O'Rourke encouraged them to ramp up pressure on the White House.

"I feel very strongly about this. I think you need to center and focus all of your effort on the president," O'Rourke said.

O'Rourke told Democrats on Thursday that Biden needs to be held accountable for the voting bills stalled in Congress.
