Influenza has been around at least since the federal reserve was formed. Why did it vanish in 2020?

How was CDC able to predict what strain would predominate each year? Did CDC have “special insight” in making such predictions by producing & distributing the predicted strain each year? Can the 2020 extinction of influenza be explained by a corporate change-of-focus to corona virus at the CDC?
