Biden, (Sr.), said he had returned from Baltimore, where he had been a guest of relatives and friends (Maryland was where he was born). It appears he had resided at the YMCA thereafter until October, 1940, during which he was in a number of plays shown throughout the city as a member of the Y Dormitory Club. He was still listing his official residence at his father's in Scranton.
April 9, 1940: According to a census of this date, Joe Biden, (Sr.), was still living in a dormitory in the YMCA in York, PA. He was 24 at this time, so born around 1916, and still single, with one year of college. He was listed as having been born in Maryland, and he was still listing his official residence as being Scranton, Lackawanna Co., PA. From April until October, he now worked for the Amoco Bulk Plant as a clerk-typist. He would continue living at the YMCA during that time.
October 16, 1940: Joe Biden, (Sr.), registered for the draft. The address of his father, Joseph H. Biden was crossed out and replaced with the YMCA in York, PA. He then moved out of the YMCA, likely leaving the job with Amoco, to the American Oil Co. Bulk plant in Harrisburg where he took the position of salesman.
