Police in Santa Cruz, California, arrested two white men in connection with the vandalism of a Black Lives Matter mural.

Officers arrived at 800 Center Street on Saturday morning to find the mural painted on the ground had been defaced with vehicle tread marks, the Santa Cruz Police Department said.

Investigators reviewed surveillance footage, which showed a vehicle intentionally "burning out" across the length of the mural, police said.

Later on Saturday, police confirmed that two men—19-year-old Hagan Warner and 20-year-old Brandon Bochat—had been arrested in connection with the vandalism. Both were booked into the Santa Cruz jail on charges of felony vandalism and conspiracy to commit a felony.

The US shipping crisis is not going away as 33 cargo ships float off the coast of LA waiting to dock

A supply-chain crisis has been brewing off the coast of Southern California for many months as massive freighters wait for dock space to open up.

Current port delays are near a record high. On Friday, 33 ships were anchored off the coast waiting for a spot to open up to unload at Los Angeles and Long Beach ports, according to data from the Marine Exchange of Southern California.

California ports in Los Angeles and Long Beach account for about one-third of US imports. These ports operate as a primary source of imports from China and have been heavily congested for months.

Some of the container ships have been waiting off the shore for weeks, pushing back delivery dates and driving up the cost of transportation. Of the ships waiting to dock, half of them are what Marine Exchange calls "mega-container ships" or ships with the carrying capacity of 10,000 TEUs.

"Part of the problem is the ships are double or triple the size of the ships we were seeing 10 or 15 years ago," Louttit told Insider. "They take longer to unload. You need more trucks, more trains, more warehouses to put the cargo."

Soros-backed proposal to replace Minneapolis police force approved for November ballot

The Minneapolis City Council voted 12-1 on Friday to push a petition drive to replace Minneapolis' police force with a department of public safety onto the November ballot.

The proposal asks voters if they want to approve a plan to replace the police department with a new public safety department focused on a "comprehensive public safety approach" that would include police officers "if necessary to fulfill the department's responsibilities."

A new political committee calling itself Yes 4 Minneapolis gathered 20,000 petition signatures to place a question on the ballot to amend the city's charter. In February, The Reformer reported the group is fueled by a single $500,000 donation from progressive activist billionaire George Soros' Open Society Policy Center, citing campaign finance documents.

Ennahda, which holds the largest parliamentary bloc, said in a statement that "on 25 July, anarchist groups that failed to convince public opinion of their populist and undemocratic options, attacked some of the movement's headquarters in the country, and attempted to intimidate those inside it and threaten their lives."

A video posted on social media showed groups of people storming and vandalising the movement's headquarters in many governorates.

Ennahda condemned what it described as "criminal gangs backed by parties outside and inside the country's borders" for attacking "the movement's headquarters" and spreading "chaos and vandalism, in order to serve agendas that seek to overthrow the democratic path and pave the way for the return of oppression and tyranny."

Tunisia is seen as the only Arab country that succeeded in carrying out a democratic transition during the Arab Spring in 2011.

(ANSAmed) - TUNISI, 26 LUG - Tunisian law enforcement, acting under instructions from Tunisian President Kais Saied, on Monday morning forced the closure of the local headquarters of Qatar-based Arab TV broadcaster Al Jazeera.

Journalists and employees were given the time needed to leave their offices, said Lotfi Hajji, director of Al Jazeera's Tunis headquarters.

Just prior to the closure, Al Jazeera had posted on its Facebook page, citing "well-informed Tunisian sources", that Tunisian Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi was not under arrest but at his home, and that he intended to hold a cabinet meeting despite having been ousted by Saied on Sunday. Crist also criticized DeSantis for failing to promote the coronavirus vaccine, and accused the governor of giving vaccine preference to rich, white, Republican voters.

"People need to be informed about getting vaccinated over and over and over again. And wearing masks inside when we're inside and we're close."
