sort of tangential but anon was looking at the South African poet Roy Campbell, who terrorized the fashionable leftists for a decade or so before WWII.
Campbell fought in Spain for the Royalist side and was actually in Guernica when it was bombed. (Picasso, who did the famous painting was no where near Guernica. )
Campbell was quiet 'autistic' about the truth. Meaning, he insisted on blasting it out in whatever circs and did. Which led his targets to describe him as "low"
Campbell was the only English writer to actually see Guernica destroyed and he said it was Soviet Red Airforce planes that did it. That "Guernica" was, and is, a false flag, by the Commies on their own people, and that the lefts great icon of freedom, Picasso's Guernica, was just bald-head artist whipping his skippy to redzo propaganda.
His description of the Communists in the Spanish Civil War from “The Contending Forces” in The Flowering Rifle (1939), for example, pulls no punches:

Auden and Christopher Isherwood would also earn Campbell’s ire for fleeing to the United States when war between Britain and Germany was imminent. Campbell volunteered for British service in World War II, despite being barely able to pass the physical exam.
