Bit of an oversimplification to paint law enforcement as being brave and patriotic, I think. Many officers unquestionably "fight" against the demons created by the very govt they have for decades refused to question. All the while receiving praise from the media and public, for obvious reasons, many of which are sinister on the part of the media, of course. Meanwhile, they relish their salaries, benefits, and pensions while belittling, even if so slightly in their minds, those who don't openly carry Glock 19's with a badge because us plebeians don't "put our lives on the line." Well, actually we serve in many other ways than uttering profanity while cuffing a guy on the sidewalk. Sorry if that's not up to the trendy patriotic standard. How many officers would disobey an order to confiscate firearms from the public, if it came to that? Do NYC officers have a different mentality of patriotism than officers in the rest of the country? How valuable is the pension vs. disobedience?
