Digging through my hometown newspaper archives, I found this series of articles dated May 25, 1970. I was primarily looking for stories following the April 4 Kent State University shootings, which made headlines and galvanized the student protests. This story is a reaction to the mostly left leaning accounts of what happened at Kent State. At a Struthers (part of Youngstown) VFW hall, a KSU student cited the need for a Loyalty Oath among universities as a way to counter the subversive left. Remarkably, he touched on the very core issues we're dealing with at present. Notably, the real underlying reasons why Kent State was targeted by radicalized student activists were the military and pharma research connections to the university.
The large number students who demonstrated weren't nearly as informed as the organizers. For most, it was just about stopping the Vietnam War, and a reaction to the recent news of the Cambodian bombing campaign. Those killed were sacrificial lambs. The question that needed to be answered then (and now) : Who were the controllers behind the scene planning and directing the protests?
Also in that edition, a story about the St Louis, MO and his appointed organized crime "zcar" entangled in mob related corruption. Good old big city corruption. Same old denials. Same old usual suspects.
And finally, a little article about a government agency called the National Planning Association seeking to continue a tax program to help fight poverty. Turns out the NPA had been around a long time. In a 1949, Harry S. Truman gave a speech at one of their annual meetings, to help "clarify" misconceptions about the good work big government planners and controllers do for both the nation, and the world's progress.
(((They've))) been at this a long time.
