Women used to be protected from the rest of the world by men, but feminism demanded that they should participate in the real world as equals to men. Well, in the real world you have to deal with a lot of shitty behavior from others without running and crying to authority figures to solve your problems for you.

What we need is a social understanding that traditional female roles in society are not wrong, and that many women actually do enjoy that role. We need people to understand that having the freedom to choose a life contrary to social norms means that you must also accept responsibility for the risks that come with your choices.

If you want to be sheltered from harm by another (be it a lover, government or other) you will have to accept whatever they decide is best for you. If you want to be free you will have to accept that it's up to you and nobody else to solve any conflicts you have with others.

This isn't a black and white one or the other decision though, it's a choice you will need to make many times throughout your life in many different situations. This is what makes developing meaningful relationships with other individuals important, so that you do have people who you can trust when you run into a conflict that you can't handle alone.

Being protected by others isn't a baseline state in the real world. That is something that is created through intentional effort. If you want to be protected by men without putting any effort in to create that situation yourself, there are plenty of junkies and pimps with low standards.

Nothing backhanded about this. I'm being harsh because the real world can be very harsh. Those who can't come to terms with this truth are destined to be slaves, either to some predator or to their own despair.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not happy with the way things used to be either and I'd like nothing more than to see more free, capable women. What I don't want to see is a bunch of idiots effectively running naked in the streets then acting surprised when they're victimized and blaming society for not protecting them, which we have an unfortunately large amount of going on right now (as well as predators enabling that behaviour because they enjoy having such easy access to victims).
