'Cabinet members' meeting at Trump's New Jersey golf club

Former President Donald Trump has been holding meetings with "Cabinet members" at his golf club in New Jersey this week, according to a top ally.

Mark Meadows , who was Trump's final White House chief of staff, said the work at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, is focused on "what comes next" with regards to 2022 and 2024 elections , after which Newsmax host Steve Cortes (himself a former Trump adviser) asked whether he wanted to break any news about his meetings with the former president.

"We met with several of our Cabinet members tonight," Meadows said. "We actually had a follow-up member — meeting with some of our Cabinet members, and as we were looking at that. We were looking at what does come next. I’m not authorized to speak on behalf of the president, but I can tell you this, Steve: We wouldn’t be meeting tonight if we weren’t making plans to move forward in a real way, with President Trump at the head of that ticket."

Meadows did not name anyone involved in the meetings, but his use of the term "Cabinet" is making some waves at a time when some Trump allies claim, without presenting evidence for a real path forward, that the former president can be reinstated in the White House, including My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell .

"I can’t stop thinking about this interview. The former chief of staff is talking as if there’s a shadow presidency going on (there isn’t) at a time when there’s a conspiracy theory that Trump will be reinstated (he won’t) and as Trump has urged some advisers to keep saying it," tweeted New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman .

Trump has publicly insisted the 2020 election was stolen due to widespread fraud, and after lawsuits challenging the results of the contest were roundly thrown out by the courts, he has been cheering on a GOP push to conduct "forensic" audits in states such as Arizona and Pennsylvania — even as federal, state, and local officials assert the election was bereft of maleficence that would overturn the results.

American Pacific Islanders Deserve Protection – In the Pacific

It’s past time to provide U.S. maritime protection to American Samoa.

When I represented the United States at the 7th ASEAN-U.S. Summit in Bangkok in 2019, I had a clear message for our allies and adversaries in the region: America is a Pacific power. America’s Pacific orientation does not arise just from our continental West Coast. We are a Pacific Island nation comprised of Alaska’s Aleutian Islands, Hawaii, the often overlooked territories of American Samoa, Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Marinara Islands, and nine Pacific possessions, together with their vast exclusive economic zones (EEZs).

The Pacific Islands have enjoyed over 75 years of post-World War II peace secured by the United States military. Thus, it is easy to forget that they were once on the frontline of the battle for freedom. Shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor, on January 11, 1942, Naval Station Tutuila on American Samoa, an essential link in the chain of islands that preserved communications and sea lanes connecting the United States, Australia, and New Zealand, was raided by an enemy submarine.

Nine days later, a Marine brigade arrived to protect Pago Pago, the deepest natural harbor in the South Pacific. American Samoans enlisted in the Fita Fita Guard and the Maligi Samoa Marines. Had the Battle of Midway not been a pivotal victory for the United States, American Samoa could have been the next major target.

American Samoa, the only American territory south of the equator, continues to have the highest proportional military enlistment rate of any state or territory in the United States and its geographic importance has not changed. Yet unlike Hawaii, Alaska, or Guam, there is almost no U.S. military or maritime law enforcement presence in this American territory.

Coast Guard Considers Placing Cutters In American Samoa In Response To Illegal Fishing

U.S. Coast Guard officials say they will evaluate the feasibility of basing fast response cutters in American Samoa in the western Pacific, due to alleged predatory activities of Chinese fishing vessels and also to ensure freedom of navigation.

“The U.S. is a Pacific power,” said National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien. “ People’s Republic of China’s illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing, and harassment of vessels operating in the exclusive economic zones of other countries in the Indo-Pacific, threatens our sovereignty, as well as the sovereignty of our Pacific neighbors and endangers regional stability,” he said. “Efforts of the United States government, including the United States Coast Guard are critical to countering these destabilizing and malign actions.”

O’Brien noted that the Coast Guard is continuing to modernize and enhance the capabilities of its fleet of major cutters, which play a prominent role in protecting vital national interests, and where appropriate, U.S. partners in the region.

“To that end, the Coast Guard is strategically homeporting significantly enhanced fast response cutters, built in a proven Louisiana-based shipyard, in the western Pacific,” he said. “The new generation of fast response cutters will conduct maritime security missions, such as fisheries patrols, enhance maritime domain awareness and enforcement efforts in collaboration with regional partners who have limited offshore surveillance and enforcement capacity, and ensure freedom of navigation.”

Obrien said the Coast Guard plans to evaluate the feasibility of basing those fast response cutters in American Samoa, If the survey is favorable, the U.S. could further expand its presence in the South Pacific, he said.
