Pa. COVID-19 case count continues rising: daily update

 

Pennsylvania reported 1,493 new or probable COVID-19 infections on Wednesday as its daily average of cases and hospitalizations continues to climb.

Its seven-day average of new cases reached 1,115 on Tuesday, up from less than 200 in early July, according to tracking by Johns Hopkins.

The state said 563 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, the same as Tuesday, but more than double the number from a few weeks ago. Of those, 126 are in intensive care, 22 more than on Monday.

The state reported 15 new deaths, raising the toll to 27,883.

The state in its Wednesday update said 63.2% of Pennsylvanians 18 or older are vaccinated against COVID-19.
