Don't generally disagree with your sentiments, CM cannot tell you exactly how to stay safe for the same reasons that as you mentioned things change every 3 months. I would argue against the view the VMs make your interneting any safer, that VM needs to connect to the internet somehow, usually through the host, after that hop everything is the same as far as network trace. If torrenting use a VPN. Will have more to say about it when we know more about the content. CM talking about self dox is what I was talking about with exposing your IP. A seedbox is some sort of server that you have running the torrent with the file that you are trying to share, usually in some sort of high bandwidth situation so the initial seed (you) of the file can get the whole thing out to more peers so the whole thing is spread quicker. There are usually options relating to initial seed in the client that you use, so you can set the seeding to prioritize getting the whole file out to a high bandwidth peer instead of the normal balanced pieces, this helps so you have more initial peers. Since you are mixing the personal tech situation with your real payment details and ID and what not, you should def stay away from stuff like seedboxes if you do not know what you are doing.

Yeah I think the general rule is if you do not currently regularly torrent just study and hold tight. I am personally looking forward to seeing this file in the top active torrents lists if it is public enough, that would really help spread it.

Back in the day I changed my ISP to one because they kept giving the finger to info requests. They used to be state run and despite being more expensive, they knew how to play the power game and effectively made larger targets of competing ISPs.

CMs torrent file, that is the context, the recommendation to use a VPN is because you always should when you torrent, otherwise you expose your IP to peers, that is what he meant when he said self dox, to simplify the risk.
