Coast Guard seizes $1.4B in illegal cocaine, marijuana on way to US

A team of United States Coast Guard units working with Canadian military members has interdicted a record $1.4 billion worth of illegal narcotics over the past two months, officials said.

The seizure — which is the largest of its kind in the branch’s history — included 59,700 pounds of cocaine and 1,430 pounds of marijuana taken from smugglers in the Eastern Pacific and Caribbean oceans, USCG said.

Capt. Todd Vance of the Coast Guard Cutter James said Thursday that his ship and his Canadian allies dealt a “significant blow” in the agency’s fight to stop illegal drugs.

“Today, the crew of James will unload 26 metric tons of cocaine and marijuana interdicted by multiple Coast Guard Units, [U.S. Customs and Border Protection] air assets and Canadian partners with a wholesale street value of over $1.4 billion, which is the largest offload in the James’ history and double what was interdicted in our Fall 2020 patrol,” Vance said.

The captain said his crew of 150 sailors patrol the Eastern Pacific and Caribbean seas, disrupting the flow of drugs coming into Central America for eventual transport to the United States. The last patrol lasted about two months.

“This crew and their efforts have struck a significant blow in the fight to combat the criminal networks who create the destabilizing influence we’re all witnessing in Central America and at our nation’s southern border,” he said.

The patrol doubled the amount of drugs seized from its previous one, Vance said.

“Drug trafficking organizations are ruthless and highly adaptable. We will remain adaptable and we will never relent.”

Sailors and staff from the Canadian Vessel HMCS Shawinigan were also present at the press conference.

Maj. Gen. Paul Ormsby, Canadian Defense Attaché, spoke Thursday and thanked the American and Canadian men and women involved.

Chair of LA County Board of Supervisors issues executive order to require county employees to get vaccinated

Chair of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Hilda Solis issued an executive order on Wednesday to mandate that all county employees furnish proof of COVID-19 vaccination by Oct. 1.

The orders declares that, "The Chief Executive Officer, in consultation with the Office of County Counsel and the Departments of Human Resources and Public Health, establish a mandatory vaccination policy, effective immediately, which requires all County employees to provide proof of full vaccination by October 1, 2021."

In a statement about the move, Solis said that there would be exemptions for medical and religious reasons.

"Today, the County is reporting another 3,734 new cases, 1,242 hospitalizations, and tragically, 16 deaths. When the County marked its re-opening on June 15, there were only 210 confirmed cases, fewer than 220 were hospitalized with COVID-19, and the positivity rate sat at an incredibly low 0.6%," Solis said in the Wednesday statement. "However, with the rapid spread of the Delta variant, our daily cases have increased nearly eighteen-fold and hospitalizations more than five-fold. As vaccinations continue at a pace slower than what is necessary to slow the spread, the need for immediate action is great."

Two members of the LA City Council on Wednesday introduced a motion to impose a requirement that people must get at least one vaccine dose in order to enter various indoor establishments.

A portion of the motion that LA City Council President Nury Martinez shared on social media declares: "I THEREFORE MOVE, that the City Council instruct the City Attorney to prepare and present an ordinance that would require eligible individuals to have received at least one dose of vaccination to enter indoor spaces, including but not limited to, restaurants, bars, retail establishments, fitness centers, spas, and entertainment centers such as stadiums, concert venues, and movie theaters."

Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer on Tuesday called for LA County to require proof of vaccination for people to engage in some indoor activities.

"I urge the County to require proof of vaccination for certain indoor activities, including dining in restaurants, exercising in gyms, and attending public performances and events," Feuer wrote in a letter.

“Just Get the Damn Vaccine” – RINO Maryland Governor Threatens to Impose Lockdowns if More People Don’t Get Vaccinated

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan on Thursday lashed out at unvaccinated people and threatened to impose new lockdowns and mandates if more people don’t roll up their sleeves and get vaccinated.

Hogan said nearly 78% of Maryland adults are fully vaccinated for Covid-19, but that’s not good enough.

Hogan said vaccine holdouts are falling for misinformation and conspiracy theories online.

“Look, I don’t care what misinformation or conspiracy theories that you have heard. The plain and simple fact is that these vaccines are working,” Hogan said. “If you’re still unsure about the vaccines, here is the important fact for you to consider, nearly every single person hospitalized or dying with Covid-19 in Maryland right now is unvaccinated.”

Governor Hogan threatened new mandates, school closures and lockdowns if more people don’t get vaccinated.

“Those of you who refuse to get vaccinated at this point are willfully and unnecessarily putting yourself and others at risk of hospitalization and death. You are the ones threatening the freedoms of all the rest of us, the freedom not to wear masks, to keep our businesses open and to get our kids back in school and tragically it may be only a matter of time until you do get COVID-19,” the RINO tyrant said.

“Please, just get the damn vaccine,” he added.
