Someone needs to let her know. I got the same error yesterday. I'd love to sign that petition, but not going to risk it if the site isn't secure. You have to provide an email address, what else?
Don't know enough about torrenting, but if multiple people are seeding diff parts of the file, they can infiltrate that effort by seeding parts of other files right? Files that would corrupt the information you're trying to download.
