Man arrested after at least 10 people stabbed on Tokyo train

A man has stabbed at least 10 passengers on a commuter train in Tokyo, seriously injuring two people.

The suspect left a knife behind as he fled, and was arrested later on Friday in the Japanese capital, according to NHK public television. Tokyo is hosting the Olympics, which end on Sunday.

The city’s fire department said nine of the 10 passengers were taken to nearby hospitals, while the 10th was able to walk away. All of the injured were conscious, fire department officials said.

A witness said passengers were panicking and rushing out of the carriages. Another witness told NHK he saw passengers smeared with blood coming out of the train, as an announcer asked for doctors and passengers carrying towels. Dozens of paramedics and police arrived at the station, one of the witnesses said.

NHK reported that the suspect walked into a convenience store and said he was tired of running away, and the store manager called police after seeing bloodstains on the man’s shirt. It said the suspect was in his 20s.

The stabbing occurred near Seijogakuen-Mae station, according to the railway operator, Odakyu Electric Railway Company. The line is mostly above ground but runs underground in the area where the attack happened.

Police declined to comment and no other details were immediately available.

Albany County Sheriff Says Cuomo Could Be Arrested if Investigators Determine Crime Occurred

Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said Governor Andrew Cuomo could be arrested if the investigators on the case determine that the crime occurred, the Associated Press reported.

A woman filed a criminal complaint against Cuomo that accused him of groping her breast at the governor's state residence. This caused an investigation by the state attorney general's office that concluded Cuomo sexually harassed 11 women.

"The end result could either be it sounds substantiated and an arrest is made and it would be up to the DA to prosecute the arrest," Apple told the New York Post. "Just because of who it is we are not going to rush it or delay it."

Montgomery County gymnastics instructor arrested for sex abuse of student, police say

A gymnastics coach was arrested after police say a student told investigators he had sexually abused her.

According to Montgomery County Police, 40-year-old Mark Samuel Yellock, who lives in D.C., was arrested on July 1.

Officers say the almost year-long investigation into Yellock started in August 2020 when one of his students came forward, claiming her coach has been sexually inappropriate with her. The student was a minor when the alleged sexual contact occurred, police say.

Yellock was a gymnastics instructor at Silver Stars Gymnastics and Dynamite Gymnastics. The gyms are both located in Silver Springs and police say neither was aware of what happened. The gyms have expressed their full support of the victim and are cooperating with investigators.

A convicted sex offender has been charged with a new child sex crime in Hoover.

Hoover police on Friday announced the felony charge against 42-year-old Jason Matthew Baunach of Graysville. He is charged with sex abuse of a child under the age of 12, said Sgt. Daniel Lowe.

The investigation began in July when Hoover’s Special Victims Unit received a report of sex abuse of a child. Because of the victim’s age and the nature of the crime, no additional details are being released.

Twenty-six people were arrested Friday outside Reagan National Airport after a group of voting rights organizers, college students and faith leaders rallied with a message for the Senate: Recess can wait, voting rights legislation cannot.

They marched through the airport and back outside in the afternoon heat, when about half the group sat in the street and began to sing an anthem of the civil rights movement:

And the Economist/YouGov poll underscores the fact that among Christians, one finds a variety of opinions where QAnon is concerned.

Comedian Tony Baker's Son Dead at 21 After Car Accident

Comedian Tony Baker is mourning the loss of his son, Cerain Baker, who was one of three individuals killed in a car crash on Aug. 3.

According to an Aug. 4 press release from the Burbank Police Department, authorities were called to the scene of a car crash at 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday night. Upon arriving, the release stated, the police and paramedics determined that three passengers of a silver Volkswagen were ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The press release said that a fourth passenger was taken to a local hospital with "serious injuries."

Additionally, a second vehicle was involved, but there was only one passenger, who was hospitalized with "serious injuries," according to authorities.

Howard Farley Jr.’s life as a free man ended last December when he was arrested at the home he shared with his wife in the 3,000-person town of Weirsdale, Fla. The Nebraska native pleaded guilty in April to three charges related to his stolen identity, including passport fraud.

Before announcing the sentence in a federal courtroom in Florida, U.S. District Judge John Antoon II described Farley as a “charming and talented” person, but one who abandoned his family and engaged in a decades-long fraud that enabled him to live a comfortable life.

“The fact that one daughter now forgives you and wants you in her life reflects favorably on her character but not yours,” Antoon said.

When Lands’ End founder Gary Comer wanted to shift his business from sailing hardware to apparel, Bernie Roer helped create the clothing catalog that made the company a big success.

He helped select its outdoorsy clothing, designed the pages, directed photo shoots and even recruited his kids or people he met to be models for the catalog.

Its 1977 rollout of apparel was a direct marketing triumph, Mr. Roer recalled in a 2013 interview with Women’s Wear Daily.

“It was like riding a racehorse,” he said. “We were doubling sales every year.”

A former creative director for Lands’ End, Mr. Roer died July 26 of heart failure at his home in Naples, Florida, according to his daughter. He was 96.

Central Florida authorities arrested a former deputy accused of making violent threats on social media.

Deputies arrested retired Monroe County deputy Derick Velez on a charge of aggravated stalking, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Velez, a former deputy in Monroe County, also operated a children’s clown business and occasionally performed as “Po Po the Clown.”

Velez, of DeLand, said the Columbine, and Parkland school shootings were “nothing” compared to what he could do, authorities said.

He is also accused of threatening his former Monroe County law enforcement colleagues.

Judge reinstates bail for man charged in road rage death after Astros game

A judge on Friday reinstated bail at $350,000 for the Houston man charged in the suspected road rage shooting death of a teenager following an Astros game.

Gerald Williams, 34, received the bail amount, set by District Judge Marc Brown, after he was ordered Tuesday to be held without bail until the results of a bail review hearing. He surrendered to police on Monday.

Police said they believe Williams shot and killed David Castro, 17, while chasing him and his father away from Minute Maid Park during heavy traffic on July 6.

Pinellas man charged with sexually abusing kids he met as youth director

A 51-year-old Pinellas Park man has been arrested after police say he engaged in sex acts with children he met while volunteering as a youth director at a mosque in the Tampa Bay area.

Police received a tip in March accusing Ehab Ghoneim of engaging in sex acts with minors at his Pinellas Park home, the Pinellas Park Police Department said in a news release Friday afternoon.

During the investigation, five children were located and identified as victims, but detectives believe there may be others, according to Sgt. Roxanne Pohl, a public information officer for the department. Ghoneim also has ties to a mosque in the New Jersey area, she said.

Police partnered with members of the United States Marshals Service and United States Customs to take Ghoneim into custody in Chicago as he returned to the U.S. from Egypt, Pohl said.

Ghoneim has been charged with three counts of unlawful sexual activity with minors, she said, and authorities are working on getting him extradited to Pinellas County.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo faces a criminal complaint. But he's still unlikely to be charged.

According to a report New York Attorney General Letitia James released earlier this week, Gov. Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women in violation of state and federal law. On Friday, his former executive assistant filed a criminal complaint against him. Many are now expecting Cuomo to face criminal charges for the conduct described in the report.

He might, but he probably won’t.

here’s no question that some of the conduct described in the report could fit the definition of certain crimes in New York. For example, the report describes that during a “close hug” with the assistant who filed the complaint, Cuomo “reached under her blouse and grabbed her breast.” Cuomo has denied ever inappropriately touching anyone and disputes accusations of sexual harassment.

In New York, a person is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor when that person “intentionally, and for no legitimate purpose … forcibly touches the sexual or other intimate parts of another,” actions that include squeezing, grabbing or pinching someone’s breasts, “for the purpose of degrading or abusing such person, or for the purpose of gratifying the actor's sexual desire.”

A person is also guilty of a Class B misdemeanor when they subject someone to sexual contact without consent. “Sexual contact” is broadly defined as “any touching of the sexual or other intimate parts of a person for the purpose of gratifying sexual desire” and can include touching through clothing.
