I know this is a weak example but my son wanted a tattoo when he was 14 but had to have a parent be there and agree/sign for permission. It was very popular at the time among his peers. I told him no but when he turned 18, he could do whatever he wanted. When he was about 19 or 20 we got to talking about it and he told me he was glad I said no because he realized by then he really did not want one.
