Yes, you must be very smart. Sure, sure virus particle and genetic material EXIST. However, the typical slob getting tested is not getting your fancy pants isolation and sequencing technique are they? What little "snippet" is used in the (recalled) EUA PCR testing? Cross-react much?
If I present with symptoms of an illness and samples are taken from a tissue with "viral" replication you might isolate your "virus", but have you proved it caused my illness? Furthermore, you must know that current testing is very, very capable of returning spurious results.
So…you can find, generate or have a sample of the "virus". You have not PROVED that it caused any illness, nor have you proved it caused the hundreds of thousands of cases, many of which were asymptomatic with a spurious high cycle PCR positive.
How many cases does the CDC look at with WGS testing? Maybe one or two? And then…make pronouncements that based on statistical modeling we KNOW that such and such percentage is this or that.
