Barry the barred owl flew into New York City's heart in October 2020, becoming an instant celebrity in Central Park. But the Central Park Conservancy announced Friday that Barry has died after being struck by one of its maintenance vehicles overnight.

The Conservancy said in a statement that Barry had been flying low, likely while searching for food, when it "made contact" with a maintenance vehicle at around 2:30 Friday morning. Staff reported the incident and contacted the Urban Park Rangers.

"The barred owl's presence in Central Park brought so much joy, reminding all of us that the Park is a vital greenspace for all New Yorkers, including the wildlife that call it home," the Conservancy said.

Intimidation tactics only work to a point. If enough businesses refuse to comply and are shutdown, vital services get choked and more people get pissed and start refusing. It’s just a question of hitting that amount of resistance in the first place, which looks like it comes down to small businesses since we know big names are all DS assets owned.

Video shows fiery plane crash in Victoria, Minn.

VICTORIA, Minn. (FOX 9) - The sheriff's office says there were no survivors aboard a plane that crashed in Victoria, Minnesota Saturday evening striking a house.

The crash has closed Highway 5 near Rose Street throughout the evening as authorities investigated the crash site.

According to the FAA, the single-engine plane took off from the Alexandria Municipal Airport and was set to land at Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie when it went down at 5:40 p.m. and crashed into a vacant lot and a home.

It's unclear how many people were in the plane but deputies say everyone on board was killed. No one on the ground was injured.  Investigators from NTSB say the plane involved is a Mooney M20M aircraft.

NTSB is now working to determine exactly what caused the crash. The Carver County sheriff says there is debris in two spots, at the site along Highway 5 and then at an area to the south.

"It's a tragic event for the friends and family, and everyone involved," said Sheriff Jason Kamerud.

Video from a neighbor's home security camera shows the plane hitting the ground before exploding into flames in the vacant lot and skidding towards the home. The video also shows people running to help after the crash.

Deputies are asking members of the public to avoid the area as the investigation is underway. The sheriff expects Highway 5 to be closed for some time.
