Reports: Markie Post, star of 'Night Court' and 'The Fall Guy,' dead at 70

 

Markie Post, who had starring roles as a public defender on the 1980's sitcom "Night Court" and the crime drama "The Fall Guy," has died, according to multiple industry publications. She was 70.

 

Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter both said they confirmed Post's passing with her manager, Ellen Lubin Sanitsky.

 

Post had reportedly had been battling cancer for nearly four years.

A Chicago police officer is dead and another is fighting for his life following a shooting during a traffic stop

 

A Chicago police officer has died, and another officer is fighting for his life following a traffic stop Saturday night that ended in gunfire, officials said.

 

Two suspects are in custody, said Eric Carter, First Deputy Superintendent of Police, during a news briefing early Sunday.

"This evening, Chicago mourns the loss of one of its bravest and finest. And we have another officer who is struggling and fighting for his very life," Carter said.

Officers were conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle with three people, two men and a woman, near 63rd Street and South Bell Avenue, when the officers were fired on and returned fire around 9 p.m. Saturday evening, Carter said.

"During that exchange of gunfire, two officers were struck, one offender was struck," he added.

The two officers were rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center. One female officer died there, and another officer "is currently fighting for his very life," according to Carter.

Republicans are stoking QAnon conspiracy fires — and we're all paying for it

 

Supporters of QAnon, the conspiracy theory that Democratic politicians are Satan-worshiping pedophiles and that former President Donald Trump’s mission in the White House was to stop them, have a new outlandish hypothesis: that the police officers who died by suicide after surviving the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol have in fact been covertly murdered by the deep state.

 

In a sane world, it should go without saying that this is not just false, but also absurd and dangerous. But unfortunately it does not go without saying — and that’s in part because of mainstream right-wing disinformation surrounding the riot and the election.

 

Both Republicans and QAnon are peddling evidence-free conspiracy theories, it’s just that QAnon’s go a bit further. Political and media elites on the mainstream right are creating a climate in which the very idea of a knowable, shared reality is becoming extinct, and only in-groups can be trustworthy sources.
