in the mid 1700s, one of the famous British justices incorporated Lex Mercatoria into the British Common Law, as a subterfuge to basically put British subjects under commercial/maritime/admiralty flavor law when they asked for their rights under the Common Law.
Bankruptcy of the USA Corp in 1933 puts everything under commercial law, the Erie case and stacked supreme court under roosevelt eliminated any idea of a general federal common law.
