In its decision, the court also cited recent Equal Employment Opportunity Commission guidance, which states that employers can require employees to be vaccinated, subject to the obligation to provide reasonable accommodations to employees with legitimate medical or religious reasons for not being vaccinated.

‘Turbo charged’ vaccines post promising results for debilitating chikungunya virus

7 August 2021 •

One of the two jabs, developed by Oxford University, uses the same technology as the Oxford/AstraZeneca coronavirus jab

Around half reported adverse reactions, mainly headache, fatigue and muscle pain, but the majority were mild or moderate and resolved in three days. There were more severe adverse events reported by 1.6 per cent of participants, most commonly fever.

The United States Food and Drug Administration has recently awarded the Valneva jab “breakthrough” status in recognition of its potential, which also allows for an accelerated development pathway. It is also backed by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (Cepi), a key player in bringing the coronavirus vaccines to the market with such speed.

Valneva will report the trial’s final results in six months, once it has gathered the 6-month safety data.

The Oxford vaccine is at an earlier stage of trials, publishing its positive results from phase I trials in a paper in Nature this week.

This jab uses the same technology as the AstraZeneca vaccine, which means it uses a harmless adenovirus vector to deliver instructions to the body to make chikungunya proteins, teaching the body how to fight future infections by the virus.
